This Year's Model Updates:

The RX-8 is an all-new car for 2004. Its arrival marks the return of Mazda's rotary engine to the U.S. market. Priced less than Nissan's 350Z, the RX-8 also offers four doors and a usable backseat.

Pros:
  • Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, room for four in a pinch.
Cons:
  • Option packages can get expensive, iffy interior ergonomics.

  • Amazingly Expensive - 2004 Mazda RX-8
    By -

Bought it used at 76k miles, and had it until 86k miles for only one year. One of the most fun to drive cars, but also one of the most unreliable and expensive cars to own. Spent over 12k in one year in maintenance alone. PROs and CONs are listed in the full review.

The car has amazing handling features on dry road and on rain but in snow it sucks horribly. My RX8 didnt even move in snow.Interior looks sweet and all the ladies want in and exterior is very sexy.I dont like how you cant turn ure engine off before 5 minutes or engine will flood. The heating is not that great either. My gears grind from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3 but not a serious problem.A slight noise. This is a HIGH REVVING CAR.1k- 3k it has some power, but as soon as the car hits 3k everythin breaks loose.Controlling is superior, you can take mad corners at mad speeds.Car is fun to drive, attracts ladies, gets looks constantly, comfortable, and great to show off in.

  • My RX-8 wont start!!! - 2004 Mazda RX-8

This car does a great job - if you can get it to start. I have had mine towed to the dealership twice because it wouldnt start because when I tried to start it the car flooded. This happens even though I have taken the steps to prevent this recommended by the service department. Great to drive, fun, sporty, turns heads - if you can get it out of the driveway. Also turns heads sitting on the back of a tow truck:<

  • So Far so Good - 2004 Mazda RX-8

I have 1744 Miles on the RX-8 and it has just started to move in the last 300 miles. It needs to be turning over at least 3000 to get any performance and has no PUSH at low RPMS. The transmission is super in both automatic and manual and is fun to use. There have been absolutley no problems with the car mechnically!!! I had to learn to drive all over again after a 350HP TransAm but that is part of the fun and an very satisfied after driving it this far. The start stop is not a problem after you understand whats required.

  • New RX 8 - 2004 Mazda RX-8

Ive had my new RX 8 for a month. Fuel milage is 18 mgp for the first 1000 miles. The 8 is fun to drive and seems to be extremely well built. The body fit inside and out is perfect. The transmission is stiff and hard to find 5th and 6th gear. This is my forth Mazda, 1987 RX 7, 1989 929, 1992 Miata. Dave Hansen

  • Not as good as the RX-7 - 2004 Mazda RX-8

Although I enjoy driving this vehicle, I must say that it is slightly disappointing when compared to the 1994 twin turbo RX-7. I realize that with any introductory vehicle there are "kinks" to work out but after waiting 3 years for this car I had hoped for slightly more speed.
