Overview & Reviews
The RX-8 is an all-new car for 2004. Its arrival marks the return of Mazda's rotary engine to the U.S. market. Priced less than Nissan's 350Z, the RX-8 also offers four doors and a usable backseat.
- Low base price, agile handling yet still comfortable enough for daily use, room for four in a pinch.
- Option packages can get expensive, iffy interior ergonomics.

RX-8 vs. RX-7 - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By rotary lover - December 20 - 2:00 amIve owned a 2nd generation for 14 years and waited on the RX-8 for three years. I started watching the Japanese version with anticipation of its arrival in the USA. Im glad I waited because I AM IN LOVE WITH IT! The ride is smooth and fast. Its so cool to have the on-wheel operations. This car is the best on the market so far!

The most fun available for the price - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By toddman - December 16 - 9:30 pmI have owned my 2004 RX8 for 1 and 1/2 years. I have yet to have a single problem with this car. I commute over 60 miles each day, in mostly stop and go traffic. I LOVE this car! Sure, it could use more power, but for what? More speeding tickets? If you are looking for a fast 0-60 car, buy the Vette. Even with HALF the power of the Vette, the RX8 can catch and pass one on a road course. I know because I have done so. The complaints about excessive oil consumption obviously come from people who have no idea how a rotary engine works. If you dont know about rotaries, learn about them before you buy one so you will know what to expect. I also own a Mazda Millenia. MAZDA IS THE BEST!

Fun to drive! - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By John Martiw - December 7 - 9:56 pmI had it for more then 2 years now, and I still love the car. Its fun to drive and corning just amazing. Acceleration is decent but not the best. I drive a automatic which only has 200 hp compare to manual which has about 240.

Achieving neither goal - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By fast ed - April 8 - 10:00 amGreat looking car with good handling. Have previously owned RX-7s and this is definitely a different car. Actually, I was expecting more from Mazda with the amount of time they spent in R&D. It accelerates well off the line, but its high end acceleration and speed is still average. With all the cars out there improving HP, I would have expected better from something trying to be a sports car. It could also drive smoother if it is trying to pass as a sedan. Thus, this car tries to be several things but masters none of them. If you need cargo space it has absolutely little as most large items(golf bags) will not fit in the small trunk opening.

Sweet!! - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By htown21 - March 26 - 2:00 amBought My RX 8 about a month ago. Awesome car for the price range. The perfect sports car/daily driver. Room for 4, decent power, handles like a dream. Features are great, heated seats, bose 9 speaker system ,6 disc in dash, interior design and exterior design is awesome too. I am constantly getting stopped by people about the car. Only bad thing is ...... you guessed it , the GAS, it sucks down gas like your buddies suck down beers at your house. But I still love the car.

first drive - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By rich w - February 18 - 2:00 amafter reading other driver reviews i was so paranoid about gas mileage that i clocked my first highway drive carefully. 130 miles all highway at about 70-75 mph. 19 miles /gal which is sort of a relief. i shall return with a more informative update with more miles behind the wheel. but it does not take long for the visual factor to take hold. compliments, stares and comments. really cooool!!!!!!

Nice Car But...... - 2004 Mazda RX-8
By GameOver - February 12 - 2:00 amWent to a Local Dealership Over the Weekend and there are a Few Things that Must be Made Clear!1st DO NOT Buy the Automatic! You DO NOT Get 238HP You get about 176HP,You Do Not Get the 9,000 RedLine You get about 7,500,You Do Not Get the Stiffer Suspension Pkg.,This car was NOT Created to Be an Automatic!I Agree w/Mazda for Doing This, what I Disagree with is this Should be Made Known Instead of Looking in the Fine Print!!The Milage is Absolutley Horrible for This Car!To make a Long Story Short I Love the Car and if I was Going to Buy I would Get the 6Speed Version, but for Now I Think Ill Keep My Vette as it is Much Faster and I Get Better Milage to Boot!!!
