This Year's Model Updates:

The LX model is now available with a sport package that includes a new five-speed manual transmission, side step bars, Michelin tires, alloy wheels, roof rack, leather-wrapped steering wheel and keyless entry. A two-tone gray interior color scheme is also new, and metallic interior accents replace last year's wood grain accents.

Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp impacts.

My review was excellent upon buying this vehicle, but after almost 4 years I am not excited. At 64k miles plastic coolant reservoir cracked ($200). I was 4k miles over 60k warranty. Im now at 71k and the car rides terribly. Intake manifold issues caused car to resist acceleration, covered by warranty, however the result was burned out spark plugs which cost almost $300 to repair due to their location. The more miles pile up on the vehicle the worse it rides. Currently drives like a 4 cylinder. This car will not make it to the 100k mile mark. If you are looking for a long term vehicle with good gas mileage, this one isnt it.

Bought it after reading reviews and I need a true 4 wheel drive for snow and mud. Really like the ride, and support from KIA.

  • Good looking ride - 2004 Kia Sorento

Purchase a 2004 Sorento, used from Kia of Santa Ana, CA. The dealer was great. No pressure, no hassles. Did everything I asked before taking the truck. Everything except the mileage is good to go. Nice style, quite ride, although a bit rough at time in the back seats. Several before paid off but if a few things improve (see suggested improvements), I will purchase another Sorento when the time comes.

  • Initial enthusiasm has drained - 2004 Kia Sorento

After overcoming many minor problems (tail lights burning out, clock not working, door ajar constantly coming on, etc.), I thought that overall I enjoyed driving my little SUV. Heat has now stopped working and I think it to be a cracked coolant reservoir which seems to be a recurring problem with Kia Sorento. This needs to be a warranty issue - if you dont fix the problem - your engine will overheat!! Crankshaft bolt failing three times and the numerous times Ive had to spend trying to get all of the minor things fixed, my patience is waning. Problems are getting more serious and my time is too valuable to be spending in the shop. Love the style, fun to drive - but wouldnt recommend.

  • Great SUV to own! - 2004 Kia Sorento

We gave up the minivan and went to the midsize SUV. It is great! The Kia takes the hills and the roads better than the minivan. It is classy and really fun to drive. Lots of space for hauling things. Perfect to step up in for a shorter person. Too many nice colors to choose from. Great warranty and great service also. Lots for your money. We checked around at all the SUVs and came back to this one. Why pay more for a Lexus, and it is almost the same.

Built well for an SUV, with a good price and exellent warrenty, very reliable.

  • 2004 EX Sorento - 2004 Kia Sorento

Just got this 2004 Sorento EX. Never thought I would own one but really like it so far. Looks like a 300 RX and the fit and finish are very good. The plastic wood isnt up to par. Fuel economy isnt either. Less power and worse fuel economy too. Something wrong there. Going to work on that and hope that the warranty isnt effected. Very nice to drive on the highways and as a solid feel to it.

Really like the car! Very stylish and quality looking interior and exterior. Powerful engine goes up hills easily. Has never broken since I have owned it. I bought it used 10 months ago with 23,000 miles and now it has 44,000 miles. Warranty is great if you ever need to use it(so far I have not needed it). This is my second Kia, my first was a 2002 Optima V6. It also was very reliable and I drove it to 78,000 miles before selling it to one of my relatives. There are now 4 Kia owners in my family now. This car is one of the best kept secrets in my opinion.

Super SUV, that handles well. Lots of room inside. Rear seats fold all of the way down.
