This Year's Model Updates:

The LX model is now available with a sport package that includes a new five-speed manual transmission, side step bars, Michelin tires, alloy wheels, roof rack, leather-wrapped steering wheel and keyless entry. A two-tone gray interior color scheme is also new, and metallic interior accents replace last year's wood grain accents.

Pros:
  • Great value, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, harsh ride over sharp impacts.

  • Just getting started - 2004 Kia Sorento

We jsut got this rig and it seems to be solid for the price. We really looked around and in the beginning mileage was a major factor but as we atarted to look for the price and wiht the warranty we get with this vehicle we decided to give up a couple of miles per gallon and give it a try. I read all of the reviews about the road noise and I think Kia must have also because the 2004 seems to be solid in that area. I think it is a great buy for te money and would recommend it to anyone. Another side note is I have already had people from a distance think that I was driving a Lexus SUV!

  • Quite Good - 2004 Kia Sorento

Our KIA has performed well since we bought it in August, 2004. However, there has been an issue with the rear seatbelts. The Initial latch on the center(rear)seatbelt has been found to be faulty. Also, the rear - drivers side seatbelt failed in an emergency stop involving our 3 year-old. Our dealership promised to fix the problem, but we have yet to see results. Its been about three weeks since reporting the problem to them. After doing some research, we have found that previous models of KIA vehicles have had serious problems with their seatbelt functions. We strongly urge others to do their research and make sure their dealership will promptly fix any defects to their vehicles.

  • Skeptical until.... - 2004 Kia Sorento

I bought one. Only have it 3 days. LX 5 speed with Sport Pack. What a blast! My wife was set on a minivan until she saw the Sorento and drove it. She sums it up best when she said, "I didnt know Kia made such a nice vehicle". Do what we did. Get the Sorento and a roof carrier at Sears for $150. You now have the room of the van, but the finest mid-sized SUV under you. Shifts like a truck, ride is great, we absolutely love it. Ruby red metallic looks hot, styling is awesome, too many features and extras to mention! Great value! If you are considering one, go drive it, you will love it! What a SUV is supposed to be. Thank you KIA!!

  • Please Buyer Beware - 2004 Kia Sorento

I foolishly purchased a 2004 Kia Sorento EX, in 2009, to date I have replaced the following, Crankshaft, rings, bearings, head qasket, radiator, oil pump. At a tune of 5300.00, at that time is how much I owed to pay it off. I now have a burning smell and smoke every morning that I drive it..No mechanic knows why it occurs, Also have the lights to be replaced rear and front, at least 6 times, my dash lights do not come on at all. Then the paint is chipping off of the hood. If the car stays running, its semi-reliable . If there is another two grand I have to put in this car. I will be buying a new one...A Ford.

  • Love driving it - hate the recent fixes - 2004 Kia Sorento

Original owner. 140,000. Other than the headlight and coolant reservoir issues that ALL 04 Sorentos seem to have, Ive replaced the throttle position sensor. Has been reliable and though mostly highway miles, it has never needed brakes (knowing how to drive a stick has helped with that). Doesnt eat tires, and get about 21 mpg. However, PCV and Catalytic Conv. need replacing now. Will be paid off next month and has NO resale value. Will drive it til the wheels fall off (fun off road), but hope I can get the parts for my mechanic for the current and upcoming fixes. Almost all must be purchased at the dealer.

Our new Kia Sorento has met our expectations and more. We find it an easy, comfortable ride. The children have space for long rides.

  • So Far so good - 2004 Kia Sorento

Ive had my 2004 Sorento EX (4wd) for about 2 months now and have about 2600 miles on it. So far nothing has gone wrong with it and Ive had a great time driving it. The sorento has the best factory installed stereo system Ive ever heard. Im regulary being asked about the car and everyone who has seen it has been impressed. So far, its been a great pay for the money.
