This Year's Model Updates:

Second-row captain's chairs are now available on the LX, while all models get larger rear drum brakes.

Pros:
  • Excellent value, roomy interior with lots of cupholders and storage bins, solid build quality, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Handling and steering response could be better, missing a few key minivan features, ABS not standard, below-average fuel mileage.

Bought new 2/2005 and now has 49K miles. Mileage has been 16-17 city & 22- 24 hgwy. Only trip to dealer was for switch on power seat. Need front brakes/rotors at 45K. Overall, van had been comfortable, safe and reliable.

  • Warranty alone overcomes short-falls - 2005 Kia Sedona

Weve only owned our 05 Sedona for 4 months. 9000 miles on it now. I was surprised at the "normal" noisiness of the van. A/C compressor is extra noisy when it turns on. A clunking noise comes from the front end at any small bump in the road. Sounds like tie rod end bushings, but dealer mechanic says, "drive any 05 Sedona and youll hear the same thing." Same said about the A/C compressor. The seats are not particularly comfortable, but have a nice covering. I just had the rotors replaced from warping (8000 miles). My dealer said, "rotors not covered under warranty," a dealer in Illinois disagreed and changed them while I was on vacation.

Bought it in 08 with 15k on the odometer.... 3-4 sets of brake pads pr year, Throttle positioning sensor replaced, Camshaft positionong sensor replaced, power steering pump dissintegrated, ac compressor..shot, timing belt, L front strut..toast, unable to maintain allignment, 5 sets of tires up front, gas mileage sux!!! 13mpg - 18mpg., underpowered, delayed gear shifting, 4 sets of headlights, power seats malfunction, front bearings, seizure of R front wheel. Aaand regular maintenance costs. We are a fam of 7. demand are high but the vehicle has been maintained. All was well untill 75k. After that, should have dumped it.... never again.

  • Beware of faulty brakes - 2005 Kia Sedona

Within a few months of buying our Sedona we began having brake problems. The brakes would grind when stopping. We took it to be repaired and they fixed it at no charge. The same problem happened again within a short time and the brakes had to be replaced for a second time. We read on the internet that the brakes were too small for the weight of the vehicle. This was a design flaw. A third time we had to take the van in for brake repairs and this time the dealership told us that they had a brake kit that would permanently fix the problem. They put in the new brakes but since the van had 50,000 miles on it they made us pay over $400.00 to finally fix the problem. We are furious about this!!

If its to good to be true than it is! 4,000 miles on the Kia and its had 2 recalls and now the check engine light is on. I have waited 8 weeks for a call to tell me my warranty recall parts are in. I know Korea is a long ways from here but I assumed they would mail the parts, not deliver them with a bicycle! Be warned, a pretty package and cheap price dont make up for the headaches you may encounter.

I find the Kia Sedona a good riding car with a good comfortable interior. One negative is that the gas mileage is poor - maybe 17 mpg local, 21 mpg on trips

  • Poor Gas Mileage - 2005 Kia Sedona

Overall, we love the Sedona. But, with continuous increase in gas prices, we could not afford to drive it. I was lucky to get 16(city)mpg in the winter. In the summer, it was even less.

This van does everything my wife and I want it to. It has convenient storage, plenty of space for the grand children, and is comfortable over the long haul. My wife and I drove to Oklahoma and the van never skipped a beat. We would recommend this van to anyone.

  • Great minivan - Bad on fuel comsumption - 2005 Kia Sedona
    By -

I recently purchased a 2005 Kia Sedona LX and it really is a nice minivan. The vans exterior is nice to look at; pleasant on the eyes. The interior is made up of good materials and is quite comfortable. My kids love the roominess of the interior, all the cup holders, lights, rear controls for heat and air. However, in light of gas prices rising to $3.00 a gallon (a small exaggeration for now), I am really concerned about the "below average" fuel mileage the Sedona is known for. This is my only gripe about this minivan, otherwise, I think it was a good purchase for my family and me.
