  • Death Trap - 2005 Kia Sedona
    By -

This car has been a death trap since we bought it. Frozen throttle cable almost killed my family, and we only got attitude from Kia, until they finally did a mass recall because of our problem they claimed did not exist. 6 sets of brakes, windshield wipers went out on expressway during a rainstorm. It lost a bolt off the wiper motor. Also metal pulley fell out of van in Walmart parking lot, hitting a man in the leg. The pulley was from the air conditioning unit. Also had a leak of fuel vapors, and bad seals in the car that allowed the elements to fog up Windows badly. This car is a lemon and a death trap, I do not feel safe in this car, and dont want my family riding in it.

  • high valued minivan - 2005 Kia Sedona

I have the new Sedona Kia for 5 weeks and 1800 kms. and find it a nice van to drive around. No problems at all with quality. Gas mileage not great in city but reasonable on highway. Compared to my previous 2001 Xterra, the mileage on this Kia is a lot better. The Xtera is a lot noisier and too high to climb in and out. Love the features inside and more than enough room for my family of 5 including a baby and a toddler.

  • Bought New in January 2005 - 2005 Kia Sedona

Bought the van fully loaded: leather, DVD, ABS, moonroof, etc. Comparatively equipped mini-vans were much more expensive. Currently has about 58k miles after 8 years. The brakes went out by 20k miles and the ABS never seemed to work right. Replaced tires with Hankook (factory) tires the first couple of times. The inner walls on the front tires kept wearing out. Went with Michelins the last time and they seem to be working better. Havent had any major problems but looking at around $900 for timing belt replacement at 60k miles. Also, spark plugs are very difficult to change out. I average about 13 mpg city and 20 freeway. Paint is fading. Mirrors and bumpers are first to go.

  • Unhappy owner, Warranty too costly - 2005 Kia Sedona
    By -

I am very unhappy now that I find out how much the "warranty" is going to cost ME. As dealer stated..Required to do at 30K; plugs, AC system flush, Coolant system flush, LOF...cost of over $700 at dealer. At 60K it will need a timing belt, etc. that is over $700 too. All need to be done at a KIA dealer, nobody else can do. This stuff never mentioned when they wanted to make the sale! The 100K warranty is a joke, any car will last if you do all that stuff. I have had 3 sets of brakes on it, front struts, tires wearing off, replaced twice. Check engine light comes on all the time, Alarm goes off for no known reason, The resale is worse than terrible. Have just 30K on it, hate it.

  • Mileage bites - 2005 Kia Sedona

This is a new van purchased with the salespersons guaranty that this van will get 16-18 MPG city and 24-26 or better freeway. Four months into owning the vehicle, the BEST mileage I can get so far is averaging 10.1 city and 14 freeway. Wish I had my Toyota Tacoma Prerunner back. Nice truck, great mileage.

  • Just bought one on the 26 of Dec 04 - 2005 Kia Sedona

Just bought this ex model on the 26 of dec 04 and am so far impressed with it. The only thing I would recommend is that ABS should be standard equip. on all models, not sold as an option. So far very impressed with the entertainment system. This is our first minivan, so my wife and I really dont know what to expect in ride and comfort. I have noticed that the ride is stiff kinda like a truck, but that is o.k. for the money we paid we did get alot for what we have. Cant tell you much about the gas mileage cause we are still on the 1st tank of free gas. Driving around in D.C. traffic i am sure i will not get what the manf. recommend though. Enjoy the van. great purchase.

  • Surprised - 2005 Kia Sedona

Went shopping for our first mini van on a Saturday. We were armed with prices and knew what each company had to offer. We narrowed it down to the Mazda MVP or the Kia. One drive was all it took. Than we dealt and the price blew us away. It stickered fully equipped at over $27,000. We got it for just over $20,000. And still had rebates left.

I especially like the body style on the exterior. This is not a foreign design, but a very pleasing multi-national one. I have owned a Mopar minivan and had high praises for it, but this is better than the 89 we had.

  • Love it - 2005 Kia Sedona

I love this van. They the reviewers keep commenting on the weight. As far as power for the weight I have no problem she gets to the interstate speeds real quick. I think when Kia is around for a while and skeptics like me buy them then watch out all the optioned out overpriced competition. The way I see it the competition is going to do all they can to make Kia look bad. If you stay out of the pedal you can stretch the so so gas milage. Nice ride, nice handling and more power than I am going to need. Oh I forgot the interior is not gaudy and just enough for the average non show-off. Traded in a Spectra 2002 60000 on it loved it also.Kia will bring the resale value with time. Good job.

  • Kia Sedona at 5000 miles - 2005 Kia Sedona
    By -

Weve recently passed the 5,000 mile mark with our "loaded" 2005 Sedona. Those miles included two trips over the 2004 holidays, totalling about 3,000 miles. So far Id say we have a somewhat less than average impression of our first KIA. Probably the biggest complaint we have is with the gas mileage. Our expectations - as set by the salesman- were 22+ mpg, Needless to say we were dismayed when we got a little over 18. The second area we found lacking in this vehicle is with the interior space. Utilizing the available space behind the third row seating reduces the "recline" feature and makes for a less comfortable trip. Overall, the features are nice but the controls are confusing.
