This Year's Model Updates:

Kia joins the minivan rumble with the introduction of the Sedona, the lowest-priced minivan in America. Standard on the Sedona are such niceties as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and auto on/off headlights. Upscale EX models get a CD player, interior wood trim and power front seats. All Sedonas benefit from Kia's impressive Long Haul Warranty with drivetrain protection for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Unbeatable price, attractive array of standard goodies, great warranty package.
Cons:
  • Missing some key minivan features, engine could use more power.

  • Sedone Saved Our Lives! - 2002 Kia Sedona

My husband and I were traveling to New Hampshire from Pennsylvania and were bumped off the road by a tractor trailer hauling a flatbed full of lumber! Our Sedona was up to the challenge, and took the blow from the steel of the flatbed extremely well. We also took out 60 feet of guardrail, and though the exterior was obviously smashed, the engine actually kept running for a short while--long enough for us to move the car to safety. It was totaled, and were going out to buy another Sedona!

  • What can I say - 2002 Kia Sedona

Purchased our 2002 Kia Sedona new from show room floor. Ran well for first year and then the problems started. Loud humming from front end. Dealer said tires, turned out to bad defective boots. Alternator died at 62,000 during a highway drive at 65 mph. 80,000 miles, car begins to surge forward and loose power. Check engine light came on - dealer has no idea on problem. Been in shop a number of times to diagnose issue. Unsafe vehicle at this time which I would not have my family in anymore. Went out and purchased a Toyota Sienna Limited after owning a Tundra as well. What a world of difference. My 98 Pontiac Montana w/replace transmission was more reliable then this KIA piece of junk!!

I bought the Kia Sedona EX, all options for $21,500 Everything is perfect. It drives great & is very quiet. As a service to those who are in the market for a minivan, I offer the following to consider: #1. You would have to pay $7,000 to $10,000 extra to get a comparable mini van from Honda, Toyota, Dodge … #2. The only real question mark concerns the quality and reliability of the Sedona. To put my mind at ease, I talked to 3 different Kia mechanics, from 3 different dealers, and they all said the same thing…The Sedona is the first vehicle Kia has produced that meets the Japanese in initial quality and reliability.

Great van until problems start, lost power @40K replace 6 spark plugs and fuel filter, total $555.62. Not Warranty. 28 days later, NO Power. Parts replaced as follows, Transmission, Alternator, Fan Belt, Upper Motor Mount, Both O2 sensors (twice), Catalytic Converter, and Battery. All warranty except battery. This only took from Feb 26 till April 6. I called about the Recall on Throttle Cable, I was told to call back in a month or so. Went in this past Mon with AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT and NO HORN. The earliest appointment to have it looked io 8 days later, yes EIGHT DAYS. I LOVE MY SEDONA.

Excellent overall value. My wife loves the vehicle. Could use more braking power considering its weight. Lacks get-up-and-go. Fuel efficiency is poor. Handles very well and conveniently converts from passenger vehicle to hauler with minimal strain.

  • Beats GM! - 2002 Kia Sedona

Beware of cracking windshields - no one mentioned this yet. Its under warranty but a bit of a pain. Great features except for the single power door lock button and remote. Beats the crap out of the Venture I just returned. The automatic intermittent wipers are interesting. Cant believe there is an ashtray, and that there is no clock on the radio (its up on the computer). Miss the navigational feature on the GM onboard computers. Still get funny looks from all my friends - time will tell if we were smart, so far so good.

Quite pleased, especially for the price. Looks nice, rides well, feels safe. Fit and finish better than imagined it would be.

  • Worst Car Ive ever owned - Avoid at ALL Costs - 2002 Kia Sedona

In my life, I’ve owned numerous cars includeing Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota & Ford, but none have been as huge, unreliable money pits as our 2002 Sedona. We bought it used with about 50K miles on it about a year ago (13 months) during that time, we’ve been forced to replace the following: The Brakes Struts - twice Water pump Pulley system that attaches to the water pump The timing belt The catalytic converter Drivers side power window switch (that stupid thing was $180) Front wheel Bearings Front CV Joint & Bearing Ignition coils (two trips to the shop) strut bushings (separate from the strut trip) Tires Alternator Engine Mounts Its an automotive nightmare!
