This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

  • First NEW vehicle - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I bought this Jeep 2 weeks ago. Its incredible. Ive driven trucks and other SUVs before but this is so much better. The ride is a bit rough but I expect that from a Jeep. Its built on a chassis designed for it unlike some other SUVs that are built on car chassis. I find the exhaust note to sound great, the steering is adaquate, the seats are supportive and comfortable and theres room for passengers and cargo.

My first Liberty was a company car that I picked. When the company took back their car, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted another Liberty. It is fun to drive and is just the right size for city traffic. This is my third Jeep and I love my Liberty.

  • Jeep Liberty 2003 - satisfaction - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I have driven vehicles on business prior to my purchase of my Liberty. Comparisons were done between Xterra, Escape, and the Liberty for ride and enjoyment. The Jeep Liberty won hands down ... and was cheaper to boot. If youre looking for an economical call from a fuel perspective, this is not your car.

  • 2002 Liberty Sport with 21,000 miles - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Purch. 7/01 and now have 21k miles on it. 18 years of driving a CJ-7 a change was in order but wanted to stay with Jeep name. I havent been disappointed. Reliabilty has been excellent. No signif. mech. problems. I have had squeaking/creaking which seemed to come from rear shocks. Dealer replaced them, and padded a few cables that were hitting the underside of the wheelwell. For the most part this solved problem. Too big of deal being made over location of window controls. You get used to it and they are fine. I have used it extensively in 4 wheel drive in the snow and it handles as good as any vehicle I have ever driven.

  • Best Vehicle Ever - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I have owned many vehicles, domestic and import, but the new Liberty is by far the best ever. There have been NO defects in over 6 months of driving. I have gotten up to 24MPG hwy and overall about 18MPG (more than I expected). Fit and finish rivals anything in its class. My wife had refused to drive it before I bought it, but now I cant get her out of it. AWD option delivers peace of mind on pavement.

  • Utah Road Trip - 2003 Jeep Liberty

On a summer off-road trip through scenic Utah with my wife, Libertys performance was flawless. Our 3.7- liter effortlessly crawled up rocks that had claimed a variety of paint chips from other vehicles before us. Throughout the entire tour over hot rocky terrain we remained comfortable in our well air-conditioned cockpit. I even caught my wife letting go of the "Oh My God" passenger handle up front several times. Most non-luxury SUV buyers want true off-road capability to be coupled with a coupe- like ride to work everyday. Jeep has finally addressed this dichotomy with the affordable Liberty.

  • Love it... - 2003 Jeep Liberty

One of the best purchases I have made. I have never had a problem. The gas mileage is OK. The best Ive done so far is 19 mpg. Around town I get about 15 mpg. I have taken it on several long trips and it is very comfortable. I have not been off road yet but I will soon. The only regret is I did not purchase with anti-lock brakes. It is a heavy vehicle and I almost could not stop going down a steep road in San Francisco.

  • Best Purchase I have ever made - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I bought this car after conducting extensive research (internet and actual test drives) on all of the vehicles in its class and immediately fell in love with it. The motor pulls strongly and the suspension travel makes you feel carefree in a world of bad potholes and poorly maintained roads. It performs great in the snow and in the mud, I found out the day after I bought it and now find any excuse I can to go off the beaten track. The interior is spacious and very nicely apoointed. On long drives (over 4 hours) the seats remain comfortable and the cabin is unconfining. The controls are easily reached and intelligently laid out.
