This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

  • Love my Jeep - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I owned a Wrangler and Cherokee prior to this Liberty and I am completely satisfied to this point. Fuel economy is horrible but I am trying a Mopar fuel body spacer and air intake system to help with this. I am driving this vehicle in Germany and it is wonderful on the narrow streets and pretty stable at high speeds on the autobahn. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone wanting an SUV but one small enough to drive like a car. The leather interior is wonderful and no complaints about workmanship to this point. I do wish however that American automobiles like this Liberty had a better re-sale value for future purchases.

Fun, safe and comfortable SUV. The Liberty feels very solid yet handles nimbly. Sharp looking vehicle. Only complaint is gas mileage could be better for its size.

  • Not a bad SUV - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I have had no issues with my 2003 Liberty Sport. The vehicle handles well and drives well in the snow. A bit bouncy on the highway. The limited cargo capacity is the biggest issue for me.

  • Liberty scores a home run - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Ive been driving a 4wd Renegade for 3 months. This has included desert off- road and snowy mountain driving. Performance, reliability and fit/finish have been excellent. Gas mileage is not good (about 17.5 combined city/highway), but reflective of a fairly heavy vehicle with a strong engine.

  • Love everything but the gas... - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Absolutely love the Jeep! The ONLY thing I don’t like about my Liberty is that is guzzles more gas than a bowl of chili can produce. Living in Texas and having a family of chili lovers, that’s saying a lot! I have to fill up normally twice a week. I only work 8 miles from home and don’t do much traveling around as we tend to use my husbands Prius for everyday chores and still have a gad problem with the Liberty. I only get 14 miles to a gallon. NO LIE… check my bank account. Lol Otherwise it’s an excellent car. I have 45,500 miles on it and unless gas prices go down anytime soon (can’t see filling up my 14-16 gal tank at 5 bucks a gallon in this lifetime) then I plan on keeping my Jeep.

I have owned my Liberty since April of 2007 (used of course). Purchased with about 51,000 miles. The only complaints that I have about it is that the stock tires on it are terrible even when the ground is just slightly wet. It is very dangerous and I think Chrysler shouldnt and should never again sell any of their cars with these tires. Im having the tires replaced with Bridgestones, a much better tire than the Goodyears that come on it. In addition, when you are coming to a stop it is almost as if the car sputters or clunks Im not too sure how to describe it. Im thinking it is coming from the transmission and I hope this isnt going to turn into a problem. Overall a very stable vehicle.

  • Great Car! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Ive had this car for about 6months and I love it!! Its a great "looker" and rides good too. More room inside than I thought at first. When I laid the seats down, I was able to fit a recliner in there. It has great pick up when pulling out into traffic and can turn on a dime.

  • Great Concept - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Most of our driving is in the outskirts of a major city, so the restricted side view was hard to get used to. 16K plus in the last year, its a terrific vehicle to drive. Two long road trips, both very comfortable. Off road in the Virginia mountains- Excellent performance. Not challenged at all by National Forrest trails. Replace the standard 16 tires ASAP with lower profile/wider skins- DRAMATIC improvement in all on/off road driving characteristics and stability. Thinking of buying another in a couple of years.
