This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Quite worth a test drive !!!!!!!! ;) - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

My 2002 X-type is off white/creme. People comment on it every time I drive it. It is the 2.5 with a 5 speed. Only option was the indash cd player. I purchased the car for under $29k. Im not into gadgets. I wanted a drivers car. This car is most certainly in the top for handling/mileage/aesthetics. Nothing else looks like it on the road but other jags. Interior is quite nice. I added a full wood trim kit, which really improved the feel inside. Beautiful. AWD in my state is essential. The engine is designed to run at high RPMS. It is quite enjoyable to rev this car to 6000k RPM.very cool.

Im a high milage driver and I have enjoyed my X-Type from the start. Fun to drive and great styling mane for a great vehicle. Basicly I have all os the options, except the phone, my favorite is the DVD navigation system which with the amount of driving I do comes in very handy and almost always works extremely well.

  • Love My Jaguar - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

X-Type, 3.0, X1 Premium, Alpine Stereo. I have had my Jaguar for two weeks now and have had nothing but great experiences. Initially I was reluctant to purchase the X-Type because of the negative comments but I am glad I did. It accelerates well, corners tightly, and definately catches everyones attention. I was considering the Audi A6, Volvo S60, and Saab 9-5 which were all very nice, but had to go with the Jaguar for its individuality.

I purchased this vehicle in May of 2007 as a CPO with 100k warranty and immediately took it cross country. I compare this vehicle to Audi 3.0. 1. Biggest Surprise - handling! This car handles amazingly well and has better overall feel then the Audi because of its 60% rear wheel drive, though steering wheel feedback is not as precise. 2. Biggest Disappointment - a few squeaks in the steering column and a noisy window at certain speeds. 3. Overall - with a 100k warranty, fantastic handling, Jag interior and ample horsepower, this is a perfect vehicle for those looking for a spirited car but with an eye more on luxury. Bonus is the mystical status that comes with the Jag name.

  • Fun Car but has some problems - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I love driving this car! However, when we purchased our car (used) the check engine light came on in the first few days. Over the course of 6 weeks the light went on and off and the service station didnt know why and could only reset it. Also, the driver side door handle is poorly designed. If you dont lift up on it just right it wont release the latch so you can open the door. It is very frustrating. Also the boot open indicator occasionally comes on when driving down the highway, but goes back off shortly. Overall though Im extremely pleased with the car and still feel happy every time I get in to start her up!

  • Excellent buy as a Used Car - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I am generally happy with this car. I bought it for its appearance and I have not been disappointed. I am, however, disappointed with four things: Poor gas mileage, approximately 20 MPG, even in Highway driving. This vehicle (the 2.5) is severly underpowered, with poor pickup and hill climbing ability. The leg room in the back seat is very poor. It is impossible to tighten the rear view mirror and it moves when you hit a bump. An excellent buy if you dont mind getting poor mileage from special gas and never have anyone sitting in back.
