This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

Vehicle is pleasant to drive, flexible interior layout, with useful space and fair gas mileage for a vehicle of this size. Have had issues with seat panels repeatedly falling off, clunking sound when selection reverse, early brake and tire change (PAX). Second set of tires are wearing very fast. Steering pump was changed, battery replacement after 2.5 years. CD player quit 2 months after warranty expiration. Some small interior parts repeatedly falling off.

  • The Good, the Bad, the Ugly - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The Good - performance, visibility, function and utility. Reasonably comfortable on long trips. The Bad - initial fuel mileage was poor and took close to 30,000 km before an appreciable difference was noticed compared to my 1992 Aerostar. Short carpet- tearing in rear well. At 43,000 km - power steering pump started making a growling nose was replaced. Bad road noise in mid to rear compartment of vehicle, even after under coating. Needs a better stereo system..no MP3. The Ugly - nothing yet.

  • Brakes - 2006 Honda Odyssey

We have owned this car for 3 yrs. Bought it new. Am a stay at home mom and have not driven it much but in 3 yrs. we have had the brake pads replaced once under warranty and now they are grinding AGAIN at 33,000 and the dealership wants us to pay saying a 25,000 mile repair is normal. We own another car and in 100,000 miles have never replaced the pads. BE FOREWARNED ABOUT THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS. I am now going to contact Corp. and see what response I get.

  • Battery is painpoint - 2006 Honda Odyssey

To be honest, this is a great van. But battery became a worry not long after I purchased it - it went dead several times, in my garage, in airport parking lot etc. I tried to get dealership to check it when doing maintenances there but I was always told its normal - till today when doing 15k maintain its confirmed to better to replace it, which is 2 months after 3-yrs warranty. I dont want to pay $130 for it, even I have the 10% coupon, because I am not that happy with it.

  • My Chevy Venture was Better - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Had the vehicle for three years now. No significant problems, several annoying things. The steering noise that others mention - dealer said fluid change would fix it (it didnt). The breaks are insufficient for a vehicle this heavy. I feel like I need to throw out an anchor to stop it. Vehicle is fun to steer at highway speeds but is difficult to steer at low "parking" speeds. The fuel economy stinks. We get about 19 in average driving and about 22 on the highway. My 99 Venture would get 26 easy.

  • Revolt Needed - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Positives of this vehicle are well documented. Problems are well concealed. Brakes are an issue as mentioned... early drum turning required. Economy is average, as is passenger comfort. Drivers seat OK, not great, the rest are "short trip" friendly only. Real issue: squawking parking brake drum... which service garage tells me Honda is classifying as a "Honda characteristic". Backing out of parking, turning at very low speed is the circumstance where it occurs. Parking brake band leans over and touches rear drum. Tech told me that every Honda on the lot will eventually do this and Honda company refuses to design a "fix". When WE squawk, Honda will respond.

  • No more Hondas for me - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I had lots of problems with this van. I bought this van for more room and dvd player for my children. I owned the CRV and loved it. I had to replace tires and the battery. Hate the lights do not auto shut off in the inside or head lights. I have young children that turn on lights and get out. The dvd player broke had to get new one put in. The small drawer above floor broke the tracks fell right off. The middle storage is hard to use because of the reaching in. Most important it is horrible in the snow. I live in Michigan and have had many small front wheel cars that drive better. I am on this website because Im looking to trade this in.

  • Ready for something new - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I have owned my van for almost 3 years.I am now over 40,000 miles. I have had 2 motor mounts break. The gas mileage is approx. 13/city 21/hwy. The transmission makes a grunting noise. My brakes squeak even though 2 mechanics have told me they are fine. The leather on the driver seat is wearing, and yes I condition it. I am a little disappointed.

  • Two bad wheel bearings at 25,000 miles!! - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The first year of driving the van, I loved it. Not so much the second year. I have had several problems and yet the Honda dealership always claims they dont hear the noise or that there is nothing they can do i.e the squeak it makes when turning left. Hmm why hasnt Honda recalled this since the dealership claims that Honda is aware of this noise and they have received many complaints? AND now both of my wheel bearings have gone bad at 25,000 miles?! The leather is not the greatest. The passenger seat has a tear and only after two years! The controls are not well placed. Not to mention my DVD player is starting to act up. Whats next I ask? I cant wait to get rid of this over priced van!

  • Dissapointing qualitites - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I like the van but, yes, theres a big fat Honda "but". My cheaper 2002 Volkswagen Jetta has higher quality safety and practical features than the Honda. I have only 1, yes one complaint with the Jetta - placement of the cup holder. With Honda I have dozen minor annoying issues. Made and built in Alabama. When you call the dealership and Honda Customer Service - Amazing how they have a list of excuses Are they Psychic?! Its easier to deal with a Cell phone complaint, Timeshare or the IRS than Honda. "Its the winter snow", "You drove on dirt", "You drove on gravel" "You drove the Car", "Warantee? Nope, not covered! "NOT our Fault cause we monitored your poor driving skills." GPS Spyware?
