This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

  • Very good, for the most part... - 2006 Honda Odyssey

The Odyssey is overall very decent. Upscale feel on the inside. Car is quiet and smooth. Satisfying power and surprisingly very good handling. I also own a Subaru STi and CBR1000RR bike, and still am pleasantly surprised at the Odysseys acceleration and car-like handling. The Nav system is also very impressive and fast... this and the 630+ recognized voice commands are tres cool!!! Even my wife who was reluctant to buy this extra technogear now wonders how she got along without it. Heres the bad parts: Consistently disappointing gas mileage 16-17 mpg even when driven by my wife, who doesnt live life past 4K RPM. Sunroof is already broken, too.

After 6 Chrysler vans we switched to our first Honda. The bad quality of the Chrysler vans and the good reputation of Honda caused the move. The extras are well done and the overall quality matched our expectations. But, the steering wheel is two inches closer to the dash than any other making seat adjustments difficult. I consider this an irritation not a major flaw. However, the real big problem is the PAX tire system. I would love to meet the engineers and management that approved it. The ride is hard due to extra thick sidewalls, you cannot replace the tires or rims with anything but the PAX type, and the cost is $250+ each just for the tire. This is going to kill the resale value.

  • Disappointed - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I was disappointed with many of the features of the 2006 Honda Odyssey, esp the fuel, the window EPA 19-26 was the selling point I used, I have never gotten over 19 and that is open freeway driving. There is a lot of road noise while driving. The dash features are very complex and distracting while trying to drive and adjust temp settings etc. I found the A/C very slow to cool and the heat very difficult to regulate, it should not be this complex. Overall ride is very nice just too many bells and whistles and terrible gas consumption in this day and age when ecomony is a huge point of consideration. It has performed over all very well with very little problems as far as mechanics.

  • My Paint Blotchy Too - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I read a posting on 9/7/2006 about blotchy silver pearl paint on their Odyssey. I too have the same color and noticed the same thing on my van. Only when you view the van on a bright sunny day and at an angle that you can see the blotches. I also went back to the dealer to complain and they told me that its very common with silver cars. They even showed me 3 other new vans on the lot and sure enough, they are all the same. But, I dont see the problem with my neighbors 2005 Sienna also in Silver. I am wondering if it has something to do with the pearls in the Honda paint. Otherwise I am very happy with the van. Wish that the gas mileage would be better, getting 17mpg city.

We love the van, only have about 400 miles on it so far. Just thought we can offer some opinion on the van for future buyers. First of all, for serious matter, the brakes make low noises at low speed; in addition, the pedals vibrate for about 2 seconds. Just spoke to authorized honda advisor, appearantly, it is a known problem and they dont have a fix to it. Said it is normal. Furtunately, she said it wont damage the van. She also has a honda accord and experienced the same problem. I was also told that the van will make the same noises when it is on reverse. LOL. But overall, we still love this van for its design, quality and reliability.

  • My third Odyssey in 6 years - 2006 Honda Odyssey

50 mph and 60/70 very bad droning/humming noise and vibration. Its a shame because its spoils a otherwise good car.

  • Disappointed so far - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Traded in my beloved WRX wagon for a van. Went with the loaded Odyssey Touring based on prior experience with an 98 Accord EX and favorable press. Bad move. Less than 90 days old it needed a complete tranny replacement and new molding on the windshield to eliminated horrible wind noise. Oh yeah, the mileage is awful regularly posting sub- 20mpg on road trips. The dealership said the tranny issue was attributable to a run of bad units from a particular vendor. The most offensive thing being they sell the van knowing the tranny will fail make you bring it in instead of proactively replacing it. Awful CS and negative goodwill. I would never buy this vehicle again.
