This Year's Model Updates:

Most significant for the Honda minivan this year is the option to get the Touring trim with the rear-seat entertainment system and not the navigation system. Previously, the two features were always packaged together. Other changes this year include additional child-seat tether anchors for the third row and standard satellite radio for the Touring model. Finally, stated power output for the Odyssey's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Split flat-folding rear bench
  • Agile, carlike handling
  • Optional eight-passenger seating
  • Strong reliability record.
  • Extensive feature list
  • Smooth and powerful V6

  • Impressed - 2006 Honda Odyssey

We purchased vehicle 5/31/06 and have taken it on a 600 and 1700 mile trip. Its pretty comfortable to ride in and looks great. We had a trial period of 3 mos. of XM Satellite Radio and thats all we listened to on our trips.

  • Biggest Bang for the $$$$ - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

Im a certified Master technician. My wife and I researched for months and finally purchased the honda. The toyota was a close runner-up. Quality and resale are my biggest concerns and Honda has an excellent track record. I agree with many of the posts, Honda should consider focusing more on the convenience issues.

  • Not what I expected - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Honda does not have a power adjustable seat for the passenger. The steering wheel controls do not light up enough to see at night. The instrument cluster and the radio and temp controls do not match. The radio and heater look like something from 20 years ago. (Dim and dull.) The gas mileage is not what they claim. I dont have a heavy foot, but can only get about 15 in town and 24 on the highway. The interior is very good for hauling 7 people, and comfortable. All in all, this is my first Honda, and with a few improvements I would buy another. I was afraid of the run flat tires, and it is too bad that you have to get them to get more bells and whistles. Lets hope they change.

  • Disappointed - 2006 Honda Odyssey

I purchased this mini van looking for better gas mileage than my Durango. Im getting the same mileage (my calculations agree with the electronic one) 13/16 MPG. The temp. gauge has never worked properly and am told that it was set at the factory and nothing can be done. But the biggest shock is the Pax tires. I got a puncture in the sidewall today. Pulled into a shop and was told that only Honda can replace the Pax tire because the tire and wheel are one. Honda charges $300 for a new wheel. As far as driving on the flat, I was told by Honda service that if I drive more than a few miles on it, I chance doing more damage - more money. So as I write this, Im waiting for a tow truck.

  • New 06 Odssey. - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

After recently returning from a 2800 mile trip throuh the mountains of East TN, NC, and VA, in this NEW Odssey I have been amazed at its power and the smoothness of its transmission shifts, (especially, the operation of the cylinder management system). Also, I have been pleased with its comfort and fuel mileage. I am a retired NASA Engineer and tend to be picky, but as of now, I am well pleased.

  • Some disappointment - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I was disappointed to find out Honda took away the rear quarter vent windows, are now stationary. Also, the floor is not level, theres a good 3-5" slope from the tailgate down toward the front of the vehicle, making use for camping and dog shows very difficult. Im VERY disappointed in the mpg. I typically get better mpg than the window sticker but get way below the mpg of my friends Toyota Siennas.

  • Overall Excellent Poor MPG - 2006 Honda Odyssey

Drives very well for a large vehicle never been wanting for more power comfortable on long hauls tremendous storage space and configurations no coin holder very good headlights strange and confusing button layout for climate controls we get 13.5 MPG around town (<5 miles) and 22-23 MPG on fwy cloth seats are wearing very well turning radius is OK pretty easy to parallel park excellent visibility powerful A/C seats 8 (4 adults + 4 kids in car seats + beach gear) pretty well - wouldnt want to drive more than a hour like that second row seats are pretty easy to remove - Ive had 4x8 plywood sheets inside with tailgate closed! clear gauges silly number of cup holders.

  • The Odyssey after 2 years - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

This is an update on our new Odyssey after living with it for 2 years. Reliability has been excellent. Ride quality and fit & finish have held up. We took a long car trip in August. The kids had plenty of room, the DVD was great. The Nav system is awesome. We made multiple stops throughout the LA basin and it was incredibly easy with the nav computer. We still love the van. I cant imagine stuffing 3 kids across a single back seat and the van is so much easier to live with than a SUV. The Denali only comes out for towing and snow. But... the pax tires are a problem.

  • Warning on the run flat tires - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

This is an OK van to drive. Do not expect more than 18 MPG on average forget the manufacturers quote. Also do not get this van with the run flat tires. If you get a flat it can only be fixed at a Honda dealer. If you get a flat in a rural area on a friday night your only option is to drive it to a dealer to find that he is closed. You wait until Monday morning and he may tell you that he does not have a spare but will order you one. That can be a few days. It happened to me.

  • watch out for noise - 2006 Honda Odyssey
    By -

The Odyssey has a "characteristic" that is annoying. Keep the rpm around 2100 when slowly accelerating or going up a hill and it resonates/hums. I hope they fix this soon! Other than that it has been a very enjoyable vehicle that has more headroom in the rear seats than the Sienna, a big plus when carrying 6 adults.
