Overview & Reviews
Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.
- Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
- Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

The car is great! Bridgestone tires awfu - 2006 Honda Civic
By Frank - September 28 - 5:23 pmI like everything about the Civic EX. The Bridgestone tires Honda put on it are pretty bad though! The dealer said Honda got a big discount on Bridgestone tires and switched from Michlein. I took the Bridgestone tires off and replaced them with Michlein Sport tires that Honda puts on the Civic SI. It now tracks and holds the road MUCH better. Dont expect much from the Bridgestone tires on water or Snow....you will be in deep trouble. This was my 20th Honda/Acura product!!

Hybrid Newbie - 2006 Honda Civic
By ZZach - September 25 - 6:46 pmThis is the first hybrid vehicle Ive ever owned. I was contemplating purchasing the non-hybrid Civic with navigation, but after driving the hybrid I was sold on it. So far Im averaging about 43 MPG doing only city driving, Im anxious to do a highway trip to see what kind of mileage I get. This is my second Honda vehicle and Ive been impressed with the quality for the price. The hybrid has been fun to drive and I only have fill up every third week rather than weekly doing the same amount of miles.

Cracked Engine Block - 2006 Honda Civic
By stp44122 - September 24 - 7:51 amThis WAS a fun car to own, but Im not buying another Honda. Ive had this since January 2006 putting 71,000 miles (95% highway) on the vehicle. I followed all oil changes, all servicing AT THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. There is a TSB, 08-044 where they admit that all 2006, 2007, 2008 Civic Sedans have this design or casting flaw AND YOUR ENGINE WILL CRACK! Its just a matter of time. Hopefully it will be during the warranty (as most have been), and youll get your engine replaced. If not, youre in my boat, called the DOT, State Attorney General, Better Business Bureau, and Honda trying to get their design or casting flaw fixed. Ive never had to replace a Toyota engine.

I love it! - 2006 Honda Civic
By Stabi - September 22 - 10:24 amI have had this car for three thousand miles and I love it! The shifts are always smooth, has adequate pickup in low rpm range if you want to get good gas mileage, but stomp down on the gas and you really go! Disappointed with quality of peripherals. Bought the car used with 53k, after 1k miles needed a new idler pulley. Fixed the idler pulley and they told me that the tensioner pulley bearing is going bad too. Not to mention spending 10 hours getting my third gear fixed. While I did that I had to get my sun visor replaced ($75) it was falling apart. All in the first month of my owning (53-54k miles).

Brake Problems - 2006 Honda Civic
By Disappointed - September 20 - 12:53 pm2006 Civic LX 4Dr Auto. The car ran and handled well. Gas mileage was a little disappointing because the most I got with a highway/city driving ration of 80/20 was 32 mpg. On average I received about 28-30 mpg. My biggest issue with this vehicle was that I had to replace the front brake pads at 7,700 miles and again at 13,500 miles along. The second time the pads were replaced, the rotors had to be replaced as well. I drove mostly freeway miles and I find this unacceptable. After speaking with American Honda and the dealership (the dealer was excellent), they said I should expect to only get between 8k-10k miles out of each pair. I have since sold the car.

06 Honda Coupe EX (auto) - 2006 Honda Civic
By Darrell Crouse - September 19 - 8:36 pmCouldnt be more pleased with the overall performance and quality of this vehicle. The only thing I dislike is the limited head room. A tall person would not fit well in the drivers seat. I consider the fuel economy to be excellant for a non hybrid. I am getting an avg. of 36 mpgs

2006 Civic EX - 2006 Honda Civic
By Randy - September 17 - 8:26 amThe civic has poor visibility, is uncomfortable, and seems to have air conditioning problems which the dealer has been unable to diagnose.

Undecided - 2006 Honda Civic
By undecided - September 15 - 12:10 amI did a ton of research before buynig my new Civic. I love the features, the smooth shifting, the look of the car, and how it drives. Unfortunately, my new car has not been reliable. In the first 3 months I have had to repair my vehicles brakes, replaced the power steering assembly, and due to a faulty grounding wire, Ive been stranded on a busy freeway with a completely shut down car. I purchased a Honda for reliability above all else. My story isnt a typical one, but I post it here in case it helps other people. Other than the continuous repairs, I am very happy with my purchase. All repairs have been covered by warentee, but I would have prefered the car to be realiable.

Its new but so far good - 2006 Honda Civic
By DTCarRater - September 11 - 10:50 amI had a hard time picking out a car in this class. Dollar for dollar though the best deal was this car. Yes the standard price is higher, but after you factor in all the features I paid about 300 less. I got a more relable car and I get excellent gas mileage. The dash seems sort of weird at first but it is actually nice so dont have to look down as much

Hey! - 2006 Honda Civic
By Diggity dizzle - September 10 - 3:43 pmOwned a 2001 gti vr6 for 5 years. Loved the car--hated the 1k-2k annual repair bill. So the last time the gti was assessed with 1k bill--I jumped ship to a fat whip! Fast, reliable, fuel efficient, sharp looking--but not "look at me"--in stature. Handles, cruises, races, et cetera. Good stuff.
