This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • My first and last Honda - 2006 Honda Civic

We bought this car on the recommendations of several friends who have owned Hondas in the past. I had previously owned Fords and Dodges. We have had nothing but troubles with this car. 3 sets of rear tires worn on the inside in 72k miles. When I took it to the dealer under warranty, after wearing the first set out in 17k miles, I asked to have the car put on the alignment rack and have the rear camber checked. The Joliet Honda Service manager was arrogant and said that we must have overloaded the car and that the camber was within specs. When the second set wore out they refused to even address the problem. There was a recall for the camber plates and was told that it wasnt a safety prob

  • Poorly Built, Unreliable Honda - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought this car new and I am very unhappy with it. I first had the problem with the struts/supports in the rear end. One place thought it was bad shocks, but a former Honda certified mechanic figured it out and replaced them after I had worn out 2 sets of tires. Now Ive just had the problem with the belt tensioner bolt, although my car was not recalled, and that cost me another chunk of change. I previously owned 3 used Hondas and they were all very good and reliable cars. Not so with this one, so I would advise everyone not to buy one of these as a used car. No more Hondas for me based upon my very poor experience with this car! Whatever happened to Honda reliability?

  • Unreliable in its later years - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Look at the problems people are having with this generation of Civic at 8thcivic.com forums. My vehicle did not want to start and it was a key mobilizer problem. The sun visors kept falling down and blocking half of my vision and it took Honda years to issue a service bulletin to get it fixed. My driver window fell down inside the door TWICE due to a plastic clip. Now I just had the engine block crack and the dealership tells me a motor mount is broken and my transmission fluid is leaking a bit. Ive had a 1983 & 1999 Civic and currently have a 2000 with 172K miles that has had less problems than this 2006 with 132K miles. Hondas cost cutting has made me buy a Sonata. Honda isnt the same.

  • 2006 Civic EX - 2006 Honda Civic

The civic has poor visibility, is uncomfortable, and seems to have air conditioning problems which the dealer has been unable to diagnose.

  • Civic not living up to Honda expectation - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I traded in my 2004 Mazda3s sedan for a 2006 Honda Civic EX sedan because Honda are supposed to be more reliable than Mazdas and the Civic is supposed to get a lot better gas mileage than the Mazda3. So far the Civic has gotten the same gas mileage as the Mazda3 and the Civic has had way more problems in the 3 months of ownership than the Mazda3 did in 2 years of ownership. Honda needs to get its quality control act back to what it used to be.

  • Beware of Civics at or near 90k-100k miles - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

06-09 honda civics have a known manufactoring defect in the engine block. They mostly fail at the 90k mark a person driving 8k miles a year may not encounter this until the 12th year of ownership. The repair for this known defect is 2500-4500 depending on the dealer. Honda knows about the defect which is why the extended coverage to 10 years. But for owners who are just hitting this 90k-100k thresh hold we are out of luck and need to fork out almost half of a used car. I have loved and pampered my honda for the past 10 years. I dont think it is a question of if it will fail but when.

  • Honda Civic Not the Car Id Hoped! - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought the Civic after family members had great experiences with older Civics & Accords. Thought Id get a great car and save $$ on gas & ownership costs. After commuting with it daily for about a week, the odd angle of the gas pedal drove me nuts! Repositioning the seat has never helped. On long drives the seats get uncomfortable quickly. Also, living in MI, Ive had to resort to driving my husbands truck if theres any sort of snow or even heavy rain! All 4 tires replaced at 25K (!)but made no difference! Id never had an accident, but while driving in snow around a curve at 15mph I slid right off the road! Visibility is very poor due to side window columns!Hate to lose $ but trading it in!

  • Civic Poor Quality - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

We bought the Civic for fuel economy and reviews that indicated the Civic was a high-quality car. We drive mostly in the city, with an occasional long highway trip. The car has been very frustrating because of the overall poor quality of the construction. We will never consider buying a Honda again. Major problems: Driver side front door not aligned. Took 3 visits to dealer to get it close. Right side of car is 3/16 inch higher than left--Honda says this is OK. Many body noises, especially loud rattle coming from wheel well on right front. Transmission grinds (this is an automatic!) when trying to decide what gear to be in--Honda says there is nothing wrong.
