This Year's Model Updates:

Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

  • My Favorite Car - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

I just recently purchased a 2002 Impala LS. I love the car - its my favorite car Ive ever had. Its comfortable, good looking, and very adequetly powered. Ive had no problems what so ever. One of the things I love most is the integrated OnStar system - its so powerful. You can check your email with the rearview mirror! Many more things are spectacular about this car. In short: youll love it.

  • Leased 2 impalas -- 3.4 and 3.8 LS - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Best cars I ever owned. Tight, trouble/maintenance free. No problems whatsoever. 3.8 handles better than 3.4, which has just adequate power. Lease on both is up 9/02. Looked at new Deville, spoke to current owners and mechanics. All gave thumbs down to Caddy. Looks like Ill be getting 2 new 03 Impalas.

  • Too Many Problems, Too Soon - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Lets see. I bought this car at 35K, 2 years later I have 66K. I have had to change the cat converter, the entire rear brake system and now at only 66K, I am being told that I have to have my transmission rebuilt. Its making this big noise as if Im driving a truck. And to top it off, the amp or the radio went so I have no music. also, my power window switch needs replacing. Shouldnt have these problems with a car that is 6 years old with me being the 3rd driver of this vehicle since manufactured and the 2nd guy only had it for a year. No more American cars for me. Too busy skimping on quality parts to make us spend more money instead of making a long-lasting, reliable vehicle.

I bought the car brand new and was very reliable until I hit around 40k. Now it stalls out every other day and I have had to fix the engine almost three times. All kinds of creaks and rattles that are very annoying while driving in the car.

  • I really like this car - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

I love this car--we looked for 6 months- seriously considered the new Nissan Altima but decided the sticker price was $8ooo more for the look I wanted that this LS was able to supply. Honda Accord was my next pick--the 4 door look was blah and the 2-door, although more jazzy looking, would not serve my family needs. Also, the interior was smaller than what I was comfortable with. The LS met all my needs and desires for a reasonable price in comparison to the competition. I previously drove a Continental and I am just as happy with this vehicle--drives almost as cuhioney as the Continental but with a sportier feel.

  • Good Commuter Car - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Bought this car used in 2004 with 26K on it. Now close to 70K. Great highway gas mileage. No real problems other than transmission sensor went out. Original tiger paws still on. Great car!

  • A JOY to drive! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

What an outstandingly well-built car! I have to take issue with the editors comments about "wallowy suspension," and "low-buck interior". Our Impala LS is tight, roomy, comfortable and just flat FUN to drive! Someone here mentioned its not meant for those 5 7" and over. Well, Im 6 3" and this is one of the few vehicles I can actually stretch my legs in. All this AND a 5-star rating for safety?? Why would anyone consider anything else??

  • It works for me & my jobs - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Ive had this car for about a year now with next to no problems. I was just use to driving SUVs until I tried sedans especially in the winter and it is great. In my line of work this car can really get up to speed when needed. The only problem was with the dash board instrumentation.

  • If knew now when I bought it. - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

This car is in the shop more than I drive it. I have had to replace the engine three times (due to over heating), transmission twice (hard shifting), security moge, headlight switch (headlights turn off at night while driving), catalytic. Convert (car smoking), hubs, axles (loud roaring), steering column (popping, ) and the list goes on. All and all I have sent over $11,000 on this car in repairs its not worth buying oh yea did I mention there is a class action lawsuit on this car from years 2000- 2005 with the 3.8l (or k modle under lawsuit search) engines. I going to mark this car as a dont buy! Trust me!
