Overview & Reviews
The North Face package is no longer offered, but an electronic stability control system is now available as part of the Z66 Premium On-Road Suspension package. Hydroboost brakes are now standard on all 1500 series Avalanches and the optional 8.1-liter V8 is now rated at 320 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.
- Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.
- Some cheap interior pieces, lifeless steering, limited drivetrain choices.

Great Vehicle - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Russell McPeake - July 27 - 8:58 pmI bought my Z66 new, it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have over 124,00 miles on it, have done no repairs at all, just maintenance. I still have the original brakes and they were checked when I put new tires on a couple of months ago and they still have 65% of the pads left. I have room for 5 people and can carry all their luggage and then some. I didnt buy it for the gas mileage, but I just drove on vacation and got around 19 mpg, and that was both highway and riding around mileage. I cant complain.

BEST TRUCK I EVER HAD! - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Donny - July 23 - 10:00 amI really love this truck! Its awesome style and sleek look really turns heads. My wife WAS NOT a real big truck fan until she drove the Avalanche. I only had the truck 45 minutes and I had the windows tinted and 22" rims put on it "IT REALLY MADE A DIFFERENCE" My friends call it a AVA-CADE or ESCA-LANCHE.now dont steal my name. HA HA HA Thanks, Donny from MARRERO LOUISIANA

Best Ive Owned - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Sherry - June 7 - 7:53 pmLeased this truck for work - I wasnt sure if Id want to keep it long term. I drove it and bought it! Ive stayed on the road during horrendous winter weather using only the stock tires. Hauled drywall, flooring, sod, dirt, rock, garbage - you name it - and it comes clean and looks great for the daily commute. With gas prices rising Ive been thinking I should look at something cheaper to run but I dont want to - this is the best vehicle Ive owned/driven in 30 years.

Poor Transmission. They have problems - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Paul - April 27 - 7:07 amAs much as I love a lot of stuff about this car. Check out all the problems they have had with the transmission. Mine went after 65,000 miles. I have the tow package but I never towed anything. The warranty is crap. GM refused to give financial assistance because I didnt change the transmission fluid every 30-35,000 miles. How many of you do? I have always owned GM cars but this is my last. Quality has dropped like a rock. Funny they now have 100,000 mile warranty but I still will not by GM and I find more and more people saying the same thing.
