The North Face package is no longer offered, but an electronic stability control system is now available as part of the Z66 Premium On-Road Suspension package. Hydroboost brakes are now standard on all 1500 series Avalanches and the optional 8.1-liter V8 is now rated at 320 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.
- Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.
- Some cheap interior pieces, lifeless steering, limited drivetrain choices.

My Monster - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By ka1zuko - January 16 - 2:33 pmThis truck is my Tonka. I beat this thing and it has never let me down. I am typically hard on everything I have. This truck is no exception.

Love my Truck - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By mike - January 11 - 10:10 amI love driving my truck, just dont like the gas mileage. The performance is more than I expected and the ride with the Z-66 suspension package is comparable to a top of the line luxury sedan. Since I have the 2 wheel drive version, during the winter I have found that adding three 70 lbs. bags of sand over the rear axle and a good set of all-terrain tires will keep this truck on the road even in heavy snow as long you dont try anything stupid.

Problems - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By mekastle - December 7 - 4:09 pmWe are having to replace the brakes every 20,000 miles. Dealer says that is normal. GM says they stand behind dealer. Would be unsafe to stand in front because brakes dont work. At same visit, tech says brakes shot, service manager says brakes ok. Three months later, brakes and rotor have to be replaced. GM says believe dealer? Two different stories, how can they believe both? I will never buy another GM product no matter how much I like the design. Nice to look at, practical design does not get me where I am going. If GM blindly accepts whatever the dealer says, I do not trust them and will no longer deal with them. No tears from me in they go bankrupt, maybe they deserve it.

Fall Apart with $1,332/89. owner pays. - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Fall Apart - November 22 - 10:00 amTotal mileage 37,011. Failure of bearings in the differential; Failure, bearing in rear axle on passenger side. Leak in same bearing. Oil lelaked onto emergency brakes. Cost me $1,332.89. 9. Designed to fail at 1,011 miles beyond warranty???? Dealer claiming no GM responsibilty. Results (2).. 1. I pay the bill. (2) Toyota has genuine, non mis-leading total quality throughout. Chev Avalanche taught me to avoid GM PRODUCTS. I AM PURCHASING A TOYOTA AVALON as soon as my Avalanche is available from its costly repairs. READER: Are you capable of learning from the above experience. Its only your money.

Go Avy - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By AVVY - November 3 - 3:28 pmThe Avy is a great vehicle! My only complaint is the fuel cost, but that is because I bought it before gas went through the roof. The ride is great and smooth, and there are a ton of features I love. I use it as a pickup often, and always get what I need done. I recommend this truck to anyone that likes a bit of luxury with the versitility of a pickup truck

Pleased with my 04 Avalanche - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By sburk - October 30 - 12:20 pmI purchased my 04 used with 14,000 miles on it. I have been very pleased so far. My Avalanche does not have the body hardware and is very sharp looking. I am getting about 15 mpg during mostly country driving as high as 19 mpg on highway trips. The interior is extremely comfortable especially on long trips. The ride is solid and quiet. I enjoy the sunroof and Bose stereo. I wish I had leather, but the black sport cloth seats are very nice. The bed cover was somewhat faded when I purchased the vehicle, but after using a product called "Back to Black" it looks like new. This is the perfect truck for a family man. Tons of rear seat space even for adults and I love the midgate versatity.

A fine machine - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Keith Shealy - October 9 - 10:00 amI bought this vehicle after a under the influence driver totaled my Blazer. I was looking for a huge vehicle such as a Suburban but have always prefered a truck. I have been extremely pleased with the power (enough to pull our camper and equipment with power to spare). My wife finds this vehicle so comfortable to ride in she always falls asleep in the passenger seat when I am driving. I would have to say that I am a very, very satified customer.

trkn4evr - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By trkn4evr - September 28 - 12:43 pmThis truck is great all around. There are so many little things that make the difference. The foldable back seats are very easy and create so much room, and the panels on the bed are a great invention. I have not had a problem in two years.
