Overview & Reviews
The big news is the arrival of the A4 Cabriolet, a fetching drop-top version of the A4 sedan. Initially, the company will offer only one drivetrain choice -- front-wheel drive with the 3.0-liter V6 engine and continuously variable transmission. Expect to see a 1.8T version midway through the model year and a 3.0 quattro Cab by October 2003. No word yet on the possibility of a manual transmission. As if this weren't enough, Audi plans to release a coupe version of the A4 in early 2003. The rest of the A4 lineup benefits from equipment upgrades. Leather is now optional on all 1.8T models, as are 12-way power front seats. All 3.0s will come swathed in leather, with more deluxe leather optional. Previous stand-alone options for the 3.0, including xenons and satellite steering wheel controls, have been swept up into the Premium Package. A new cold weather package includes seat heaters and a ski sack, and 17-inch all-season tires are a stand-alone extra.
- Available all-wheel drive, classy interiors laden with amenities, stable handling.
- Price goes up quickly with options, engines a little short on low-end torque.

Not worth the electrical problems - 2003 Audi A4
By Ken Kasten - August 15 - 4:53 pmMy first Avant overheated 3 times in the first two weeks due to a fan control module issue. After 2 1/2 months in repair the computer module was replaced and the heat only worked at 100 plus degrees. At my request, Audi replaced the car and charged me $4,000 for a newer car with less equipment. The first day of the 2nd Avant had the sunroof opening by itself (new switch) and the headlights turning themselves off 3 times over the next 24 months. The computer calls this a "dipped headlight" but it translates to no headlights and another service appointment. After 1 visit to the dealer each month for 3 years, I went out and bought a Volvo V50.

An excellent car, with some drawbacks - 2003 Audi A4
By 2002A4Quattro1.8T - August 13 - 2:00 amAudi has crafted a truly fine automobile here. The interior is better executed than almost ANY other, regardless of price, anf the understated elegance of the exterior is sure to look good for many years to come. With 13K miles so far, and driving in all conditions, Id say this car is a 9.5 out of 10. The quattro and ESP together make it unflappable in inclement weather.

Good Car - 2003 Audi A4
By thomasg - February 7 - 10:00 amIt is very reliable and low maintenance. The interior and exterior design is fabulous. Im a little disapointed by the performance (when in automatic mode). Theres a slight hesitation when trying to accelerate (esp. from a standstill). The tiptronic aleviates all of these performance problems at the cost of remembering to shift gear.

Great Commuter - poor electronics - 2003 Audi A4
By Carmen Chevalier - January 7 - 2:00 amYep, another A4 with electronic problems. The washer fluid fuse has blown twice and Ive had the care for one month. Its irritating enough to make me want to call the consumer hotline and research the lemon law....washer fluid affects visibility, very important for a 31 mile commute. The stick is a bit stiff, and the gears should be a bit closer together. But for the fuse problem, I would be totally enamored with my car.

Disappointing - 2003 Audi A4
By LA Driver - October 30 - 11:30 pmAfter great initial enthusiasm for this car I have become very disillusioned. I have had ignition coils replaced twice (once stranding me 400 miles from home), more flat tires than ever in my life, squeeks and rattles, seatbelts that get wet when it rains, on and on. I love this car, but I cant afford to keep it now that the warranty has expired. Its cost me $2000 in the last two months in repairs. Its great to drive, but too unpredictable to enjoy all of its wonderful features.

Warranty Work - 2003 Audi A4
By pgb - July 16 - 12:54 amMy A4 has been a wonderful car, but the Audi dealerships I have contacted in my area will not do warranty or regular maintenance work on my car unless I sign an agreement to binding arbitration. I refused to sign away my right, and I was refused service. Customer Relations at Audi of America said they couldnt do anything about it. The consumer is not made aware of this "condition" until after they bought their car. Also- The only place a person can buy windshield wipers is at the Audi dealership for 50 dollars a pair. Ask before you buy!

Fun to drive but expensive to own - 2003 Audi A4
By David - June 29 - 4:28 pmMy 2003 A4 has 53,000 miles on it. I bought the car for about $32,000 and have spent over $12,000 on repairs. The car is poorly built and unreliable. It is very difficult to work with Audi of America and the local dealers are terrible. Before buying one of these cars I would strongly recommend talking to someone who has owned one and checking out the service of the dealers where you live and the estimated service costs. My car has had several major problems in the 2 1/2 years that I have owned it and neither the dealer nor Audi or America seems to care.

Great convertible cruiser... - 2003 Audi A4
By pablo_lie - June 1 - 2:00 amThe Audi offers the best cabin by a mile - its interior quality is the best in this company. The only let-down was the persistent creaky noise that came from the convertible top in my test drive car, which had about 3k miles on it. But thats something bound to happen with all convertibles sooner or later, and usually can be fixed with a little WD40. Dynamically, the Audi seems surprisingly sluggish at times. A look at the cars weight figure gives a hint as to why that might be the case. On the other hand, that weight results in a very planted, very good ride. Its the least crashy in this company.

Its an ok car - 2003 Audi A4
By jgold95 - June 1 - 2:00 amI have had the audi for 1 year and i am counting down the months till the lease is over. The Cvt tranny jerks the car on acceleration. Its been in the shop for dumb problems. It goes fast but customer service at dealers is terrible. This is why i got rid of my wifes VW and when this lease is done i will go back to the BMW. If you cant decide between this and a 3 series, spend the extra few thousand for the BMW you will be happier. Dont get me wrong its comfortable, it performs well and gets great gas mileage for a v6 and it looks nice inside and out its just comming from a BMW and going to this is a vast change in a backward direction.
