Overview & Reviews
For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.
- Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
- Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

Hidden Gem - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By RLW - December 28 - 3:03 pmI shopped for a mpg champ and looked at Hybrids. Ford was unable to get an Escape Hybrid that led me to Edmunds et al. I found the VW Sportwagen TDI. I liked the quality and the price so I bought it. It has the cargo space of an Escape with mileage exceeding its EPA and also for less money. Granted it is not an SUV but it is a nice car. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in cargo space and MPG. Also there is a $1300 tax credit they told me until June 30, 2010. Edmunds, Consumer Reports are right about this being a good alternative to a hybrid. I recently found Hybrid owners on the forums say their MPG drops with battery age by about 5-8 mpg on Escapes. So, my loss was gain.

Overall very good - but water leak. - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By Anonymous - December 13 - 3:11 pmPanoramic, Goal wheel upgrade, and Ipod hookup. dGoal wheels are great if clean your own car. Payed premium for diesel and fuel economy. Dont know if hype and economy is worth paying sticker. Had a massive water leak from sunroof drain hose that leaked into spare tire pan. A couple inches of water in the pan and your windows will never defog. Had to talk the dealer into a loaner for that issue. Pleather is underwhelming. Might be nice after sand volleyball league and mtn. biking next summer. Still miss the leather. Seats hurt your back and butt on long drives. Does not sound or smell like the old diesels. To find the diesel pump, look for the oil slick at the gas station.

Solid car with extraordinary mileage - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By Anonymous - December 13 - 2:06 pmWhat car gets better than the posted EPA averages in both city and hwy mileage? Jetta TDI, of course. I had a diesel Rabbit back in the late 70s but this car is light years ahead of that. Solid, peppy, quiet and fast. We constantly play "beat the mgps" and post our success to the web. You can get in the high 60s for mpgs if you go easy on the gas pedal but when you need acceleration even up a hill you got it.

MPG & Fun to Drive - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By hudld - December 13 - 1:04 pmBought a White/tan Jetta TDI 4-door, w/DSG transmission, sunroof, 17" wheels & iPod int. kit. Paid $24,853 inclg destination (& free matts!). Traded-in a (German-made) 2-seater convertible, 6 cyl, that took prem fuel. First fill-up (combined hwy/city driving) yielded 38mpg and price of fuel was $2.69. Thought Id miss my 6cyl vehicle, but havent noticed; great acceleration with this vehicle, plenty of room, and a great touch- screen radio! Ive also owned an Audi A-4 and this is as nice/nicer and a lot cheaper & quicker.

New VW Household - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By Anonymous - December 13 - 12:01 pmMy wife and I bought a 2009 Jetta SE last April and were very impressed. After much deliberation, I decided to give up my Infiniti M45 in exchange for a TDI Sportwagen. I find myself defending this move to my friends on a daily basis and truly believe it was a great move. Double the gas mileage, great stereo/navigation system with hard drive, and panoramic sunroof were the biggest selling features. The tax credit was a nice bonus too. It is not a hot rod, wont turn heads, and has some odd quirks, but is a really great car overall. I have averaged about 39 MPG over the first 2,000 miles. No problems to this point with either of our new VWs.

TDI Sportwagen - sporty & great mileage - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By Anonymous - December 13 - 10:36 amHave had TDI wagon for a few weeks and absolutely love it. Amazing combination of horsepower/torque and gas mileage. Really fun to drive. Terrific stereo. I bought the sunroof option and it brings a lot of light in, especially into the back seat. Auto options are terrific: can have economy in standard Drive, switch to sporty in S, and downshift manually with Tiptronic.

Best Wagon for the Money - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By Anonymous - December 13 - 9:26 amMy wife and I looked at every car with a wagon or hatch rear end and this is the best car by far. We both loved the fit and feel of the interior. Exterior wont win any speed races, but is respectable none the less. For the record the bluetooth system works great and does stream from internet radio with an iphone. No diesel smell at all, and from the cabin you cant really tell its a diesel engine by sound. Rear defroster is almost instantaneous. Love the feel of the steering on long trips, very solid feeling in the wind and no sort of wandering feel you get with a lighter car.

Really good car, but............ - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By abeall - December 13 - 7:03 amWe love our car, but..... We have not reached 40 MPG yet and we live in a rural area (very little city driving) - maybe will improve with warmer weather. Our biggest complainant is that the "ERG filter gasket" has twice needed to be replaced. No big deal expect for inconvenience of two service appointments in the first 2000 miles. Its not a quick fix either and the part had to be ordered both times for a total of 4 trips to dealership. Our Service Manager stated that this has happened on other Jetta TDI wagons - So why not stock the part??? Otherwise a great car

hybrid killer - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By Anonymous - December 13 - 2:45 amRemarkable, comfortable, economical and extremely competent vehicle. We have over 4000 miles on it and always get about 41+mpg per tank. On individual trips the mileage will vary. Last week commuting to school my wife got 47.3 mpg on her 120 mile round trip. The car is very comfortable with typical supportive German seats. The car feels a lot like the older Mercedes we have owned in the past. So far there have been no maintenance issues at all. Very reliable and fun to drive. The trunk is huge and square shaped so packing is easy and convenient. There is nothing negative about this vehicle at all. For 26,116 dollars you can get one great ride and it does not have a 300 Pound toxic waste dump battery

Green Car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
By jasper933 - December 13 - 1:23 amVery satisfied with the Jetta TDI. The drive (on dry pavement), comfort, and fuel economy are outstanding. Good green car and alternative to a hybrid. One can tell it is a diesel on a cold morning. When temperature is below 30, the car does sound like a diesel truck. The car does not handle well in snow. Does not have good traction.
