Problems - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By JETWHITE727 - December 15 - 2:00 amThis is my first VW and to be honest it will be my last. I have had no major problems with the car , however a number of minor issues. I think anyone who is looking to buy VW should look around before buying.

The Oil Consumption King - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Sabre01 - December 15 - 2:00 amWe had our Jetta GL since May 2000. We babied this car. My wife loved this car. All maintenance was done on time. Then it starts to use oil. It used about 1 quart per 1000 miles! At first I thought it was a fluke. Then I checked the internet for other owners that may have the problem. This seems to be common with the 2.0 Litre engine. I even found a web site that has the Technical Bulletin (provided to dealers from VW)that instructs the mechanic how to deal with complaints of excessive oil consumption.

A Dream or a Cliff Diver - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By Val - November 2 - 2:53 amI have had more problems with this car than I could have ever imagined. It was my dream car that turned into a nightmare of recalls and problems. From the engine that is constantly in need of repair, to the glove box that broke when I opened it, the catalytic converter that was recalled, but they wont fix until $1,000 of parts are replaced to make sure it is the converter that is the problem. If I was a mechanic, and someone gave me the car, I still would never get one again! You couldnt pay me enough!

Fun to drive, but many problems/issues - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By BitBucket - October 2 - 10:00 amThe problems through 29k miles: - 3 oxygen sensors - front window regulator failed - horrible tires w/ no grip - car goes into Drive from Reverse VERY slowly - rear brake pads GONE (I verified this myself) after 25k miles - weak A/C, already re-charged once (less than 3 years) - industrys shortest door-to-door warranty (2 yrs? 24k miles???) - tranny - car didnt shift out of 2nd gear last winter, repair covered under warranty (thank goodness) Unfortunately, at least in my case, you really do get what you pay for. Theres a reason this isnt a $30K car, it behaves like a $16k car.

Outstanding Car - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By bhdfield - September 27 - 12:13 pmMy 2000 vr6 jetta was bought new, and now has 159k miles on it. Just replaced original front pads, rotors, and control arm bushings. I still have the original clutch. High quality components. There is no squeak, rattle, or false noise. The leather seats look like new, as does the clear coat, which I did not ruin by allowing ham fisted kids to scratch to oblivion. These are very well designed cars. There are a handful of weak components, with easy solutions. Coil packs crack after 70k miles. Solution: epoxy, and it will fix it and last forever. Some plastic parts in the cooling system will need to be replaced after 130-150k miles. Big deal, its a car with miles on it.

Ugh. - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By dont like my VW - September 27 - 10:00 amThis is my first, and last, VW. Ive had it less than a year (bought at 24,000 miles) and have had the following problems: oxygen sensor, brake switch, engine light will not go off and the drivers side window mechanism had to be replaced.

Ill never buy another VW. - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
By DavidPA - September 4 - 11:33 amI dont have time to list all of the problems Ive had with this car. The worst was the "transmission blew up from the inside". I enjoy driving it when it isnt in the shop, but the hassle of constant problems greatly reduces the experience. I know others who have had similar experiences, and it is clear that VW has written off a generation of Jetta owners. Their national and local customer service has been awful. After a major breakdown I limped to a local dealer who refused to even look at the car for 3 weeks. I called another dealer, but he hung up on me. The VW America customer service was horrible.
