Overview & Reviews
After a redesign last year, the 2010 Toyota Matrix is unchanged except for the notable addition of standard stability control.
- Pleasant ride, intuitive controls, roomy backseat, flat load floor facilitates cargo carrying, good fuel economy with 1.8-liter engine.
- Unremarkable fuel economy with 2.4-liter engine, 1.8-liter engine unavailable on higher trim levels.

Generally a nice car - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By Raj - May 3 - 9:40 pmA pretty nice little car. Mileage ~31 mpg on the hwy, dropping to 24 when used for short commutes in the winter. Surprisingly roomy front and back - best feature is upright seating. Compared to our 03 civic, this has a smoother ride, poorer fuel economy, more comfortable seats, cludgier HVAC controls, more rattles, but does far far better in snow and ice. Visibility out is OK for me (5-11) and marginal for my wife (5-5): large A pillars and drivers side-view mirror are the main problems for her. Engine a little buzzy above 3000 rpm but fine at cruise and gentle driving. Stereo OK but a bit boomy.

Great little SUV - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By MACKY - April 28 - 10:26 amIve been driving a Infiniti QX4 for the last 8 yrs or so and has been a good SUV. Due to the outrages gas prices here in Canada Im forced to scale back. I got the 2010 Matrix with the 1.8 liter and sport package and went for the optional hood defector and side moldings for those pesky door dents I hate. Gas mileage is awesome the first tank I put threw it I got 37 mpg or 7 liters per 100 km, blows the stats right out of the water. I suspect it to only get better as things loosen up more, and Im able to use synthetic oil after the break in. Everything has been so far so good, but I havent had it that long yet.

Very Average - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By speedycommute - August 2 - 11:03 amI bought a 2010 Matrix 5 speed manual base model at the beginning of 2010. This is a functional car that is very average. I found a few significant drawbacks too, primarily in poor design and build but also in very poor visibility. I think there are better cars available in this category and wouldnt buy the Matrix again. PROS: roomy interior, great fuel economy, reasonable cost CONS: very poor visibility(huge pillars, small raised rear window), water drips from roof onto seats when doors open, cheap interior feel, doors sound tinny, matte finish dashboard collects scuffs when you touch it and has rough seams, clunky manual transmission and hard to shift into reverse

Nice car but some safety issues - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By totafan - January 20 - 1:03 amThis Matrix XR is being driven by a pair of 60plussers involved with elderly care thus requiring transporting elderly person plus wheelchair. This works well due to the relatively high cargo floor and hatchback.

Very versatile vehicle - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By Special Ed - October 25 - 5:16 pmHave driven over 2500 miles, and averaged between 29-32 mpg. Relatively quiet ride under 70 mph. Very roomy interior with comfortable front and rear seats with good visibility. Easy for older people to enter both the front and rear seating area. Plenty of cargo space and with the rear seats folded flat to the floor, will accommodate large objects. The basic 1.8 engine has enough power up hills and passing on highways along with better fuel economy.

Scared to drive this car but it looks good. - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By sad2010matrix - September 5 - 9:23 amI feel like I paid way too much for the 2010 Matix S which has basic insides- no bells or whisles- blah. The car sounds like its dragging, the tires already are worn before 15,000 miles and hear the problem doesnt go away. Blind spots, drivers head rest is a blind spot and and eye sore and its not comfortable. I use it for work and back. I dont want to take it on long trips for its uncomfortable. Telescope steering wheel means 1/2 in closer to the engine, thats already in your lap.

Awful Gas Mileage - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By barryw1 - December 26 - 4:01 amIve owned; Honda CRV - the Honda got much better gas mileage, Nissan Pathfinder V6 - comparable gas mileage, Saturn VUE AWD V6 - Saturn had much better gas mileage ... Do not consider this vehicle.

Fun Little Car - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By Happy Owner - November 1 - 9:36 pmThis is a peppy little car thats not so little. Lots of room for kids, groceries, or whatever you need to haul around. Its fun to drive, has a great safety rating and it doesnt look like a "mom" vehicle. Tint the windows and even the base model is quite sporty looking.

Disappointed - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By Cindy - September 17 - 4:16 pmThis is the first time I bought a new car and was disappointed: 1. Blind spots in front and back. 2. Poor radio. 3. Way too much road noise. 4. Uncomfortable ride (I can feel every little bump in the road). 5. Recall for safety reasons.

Honda lost me - 2010 Toyota Matrix
By Anonymous - August 16 - 2:00 amBeen driving a civic hybrid for five years. My local Honda dealers service was great. Went back. Drove the CR-V and crz. Didnt like either one. Decided to go look at the toyz. Found just the right compromise with for and the boss (wife) in the matrix. I got my SUV. She got her sports car. Its early but we both love it. If youre looking for a great priced mid-sized SUV you gotta check the matrix out.
