Overview & Reviews
There are no major changes to this year's Toyota wagon, although new SAE testing procedures have resulted in lower horsepower ratings.
- Versatile cargo area, roomy rear seats, good gas mileage, generous standard equipment list, availability of all-wheel drive and stability control.
- Modest torque output, less fun to drive than its styling suggests.

Love It!!!!! - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Janice Hill - December 28 - 10:00 pmI have just purchased my Matrix and I am thrilled about it. A friend has one & she loves hers also (one of the reasons I bought mine). It is stylish, gets better gas mileage than expected (38 mpg) and fun to drive. Not a lot of pep but knew that going in - Ill take the great gas mileage any day. Wanted a white one, got a dark grey and it is just beautiful - glad I didnt get what I thought I wanted!!!!! Lots of space inside - front and back seats and hatch back is awesome!

Fun to drive - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By What a car - October 21 - 7:03 amI love this car its small fun to drive. The fuel economy is great. The interior is simple and nice the seats are soft.On are matrix xrs we did the TRD racing shocks the ride is firm we also did cross bars on the car because there was a lot of body roll. When geting on the gas pedal the car has a very hard time finding traction you think when toyota was building it they would of put a limited slip in it. But once you get passed that the car takes off once out of first gear and into second when you get over 61000RPM the second cam opens the car takes of. Its fun to drive easy to take care of and its fun to drive

Toyota Mavin - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Penni - September 1 - 10:56 amThe Matrix is one of the most fun vehicles I have owned. It is quiet, peppy in town, smooth riding, and response handling. My model is a loaded XR front wheel drive with the side spoilers in Phantom Gray Pearl. The six-disc radio has wonderful sound. Even my dog loves the car - she begs to go for rides. Gas mileage is a little lower than I expected, but I am averaging 24 mpg in town and 32 mpg on the highway with an automatic transmission. I just added the sunroof deflector - a good improvement with the sunroof open.

In the Matrix - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By 86Ciara - June 25 - 10:26 amI love this car. For a 4 cylinder this car is smashing!! For some reason this car just likes to go fast. Got a speeding ticket doing 97 mph :0 & no the paint did not peel off while I was re-entering the atmosphere. Steep upgrades not a problem just flip the OverDrive button and youre climbing!! I keep up with regular oil changes & maintenance to keep my baby running smooth.

Long 4200 Mile Trip - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Dan - June 21 - 2:16 amDrove from AZ thru CO, KS to MO and then back thru AR, OK, and NM. Camped out in it a total of 6 nights. A blowup mattress will fit in back with the seats down and forward. Performed well in the CO mountains for the size of the engine. Able to maintain 65-70 mph on the 6-7% grades. Averaged 32- 33 mpg depending on the speed. Great for an AWD! Used the AC outlet to blowup the mattress, use my laptop, and charge our camera batteries. A definite plus! The seats were fairly comfortable for the long-hauls. An adjustable lumbar support would be nice. Has been reliable so far. The sunroof cover squeaked for awhile but the dealership fixed it. No really major complaints.

Mixed emotions - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Alex - June 10 - 9:23 amI really like Toyota. Their fuel economy is superb. I guess I just expected a little more from the Matrix. 126HP is just not enough to really pull a 2,700 pound car. Maybe if they made it 400-500 pounds lighter, it would have better gas mileage and be a bit faster (Civic gets 40mpg HWY and has more power). Its very spacious, and comfortable for passangers, but the drivers seat stands too tall. It shifts beautifully, and the interior design is very sporty, but the chrome trimming has to go. Handling is like any econobox; average, comfortable, sometimes smooth or bumpy, but that can always be changed with aftermarket products.

Love My Matrix XRS - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By J. Palmer - May 8 - 12:03 amI bought this car with 19,000 miles on it. At the time, I was unaware of the particulars of the XRS trim level. I liked the idea of a manual... bonus was that it is a 6-speed. It is the best of both worlds because I can haul the kids around, then my band equipment, then on the weekends unload it and cruise around town with a little power under me. Even with the extra power my, mostly highway, fuel economy is around 30 mpg. Have almost 50,000 miles and not even a hint of trouble. One of the best, most fun to drive cars that I have ever owned.

I love my Matrix! - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Susan Roberts - February 7 - 2:46 pmWe took delivery on our Toyota Matrix in February 2006. I love my Matrix! The car is comfortable to drive around town as well as on the interstate; lots of room for groceries, baggage, etc. It drives like a sports car, but has hauling capacity. And it gets great gas mileage. I couldnt be happier with this car!
