Overview & Reviews
For 2003, Toyota gives the MR2 Spyder a bolder look in front with a new bumper and fascia, dual-bulb projector-style headlights and integrated standard foglamps. The side air intakes are revised and now color-keyed. In rear, the MR2 is distinguished by new combination lamps with cylindrical turn signals and reverse lights that mimic the dual-bulb look of the headlights. Further, the rear grille garnishes combines body-color vertical ribs and mesh to emphasize the midengine design. A larger oval chrome tailpipe puts the emphasis on performance capability, and a new power antenna contributes to the roadster's clean lines. Inside, instrument panel graphics have been revised, and there are new chrome trim accents. Additionally, the leather seating packages -- black or tan -- now include matching color convertible tops. Mechanically, an all-new six-speed sequential manual transmission (SMT) is optional, replacing last year's five-speed SMT. Toyota has also upped the rear wheels to 16 inches in diameter.
- Lively and precise handling dynamics, scores high on the fun scale, available SMT transmission, affordable compared to other European-brand roadsters.
- Severe lack of storage space, bland interior design, not many safety features available.

Spyder Seq Man Tran - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By Woger - June 11 - 10:00 amThis is one fun little pocket rocket. Where else can you get this much performance, handling, and satisfaction for your $. I love the style and the "hey what was that" looks that we get from other drivers. The car is unique and gathers looks wherever we go. The six speed SMT may not be as quick as the full manual five speed, but it is suprisely nimble. This car likes to run in the high revs, corners like a cheetah, and makes the weekend drives a whole lotta fun. The car is solid and tight, a near perfect suspension.

Like A Go-Kart for Big Kids - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By Matt - May 28 - 3:36 amIf you love to drive and dont want to shell out for a Porsche, this is your car. It handles like its on rails. So much so that it takes a little time to get used to it if youre not accustomed to high performance mid-engine coupes. Ive known a couple of people who have these just to take to the track as a sprint car. They handle just that well.

Three-week Owner - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By midlife crazy - January 27 - 10:00 amIt reminds me of an MG, but with Japanese enginering (i.e., reliability and performance). So far, I find mine peppy and fun to drive--a nice, nice toy.

Super Fun - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By GreenLynxSpyder - January 27 - 10:00 amIt can turn faster than you can think about turning. Very predictable handling and you get plenty of feedback. Good milage is a plus. Dont let the low HP fool you; its light enough it feels like a car with 160 HP. I did have an engine failure that caused it to need to be replaced, but that was covered by the 6yr / 60K mile warrenty.

My 2003 Yellow MRII Tension Reliever - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By License Plate (KMA) - January 19 - 4:36 pmTight steering, fast response, smooth short throw shift, excellent cornering, snug seats with excellent side support, I am 6 ft 2 and half and weigh 275 lbs. Easy in .... a bit harder getting out but plenty of space inside once situated. NO ROOM FOR ANY BAGGAGE unless you roll up a pair of jeans with socks and underwear along with a tee shirt and force into the lunch box size compartment under the front hood. All in all though it lifts the spirits just looking at it sitting in the drive ... and when its started up ,,,, watch out ... SMILE This car gets the looks of passerbys!!!!

Glad to have my Spyder - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By ksb-now40 - January 15 - 2:00 amThis car (like others have stated) is fun fun fun to drive. Corners very well, but the sequential shifts like a little ofd lady would. Thats ok with me. It is hard to describe all of the heads that turn (young and old alike) when they see my baby blue MR2. I feel fortunate that the couple of teenagers, who wanted my car, had parents that would not cosign for them. My biggest problem is time-sharing the second seat between my wife and two children.

Very fun car - 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By gsogymrat - November 12 - 10:20 amI loved this car at first sight and bought it after I drove it. The handling is terrific. Its the complete opposite of a SUV. With a curvy road and a sunny day you just cant help but smile.
