Overview & Reviews
Toyota revives the MR2 nameplate on a minimalist two-seat roadster, set to compete directly with the ever-popular Mazda Miata. Only 5,000 are being built and sold.
- A well-balanced mid-engine design, scores high on the fun scale, affordability.
- Homely design, lack of cargo space.

2zz swapped spyder review with TRD suspension - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By jlevy2 - October 18 - 4:48 pmMy review may not be a fair one since my spyder is not really close to stock. Ive got a 2zz-ge engine and 6 speed from a 2001 Celica-GTS, the factory TRD suspension and bracing, additional under body bracing (breast plate), and much of the suspension rubber replaced with urethane. The car drives great and is my daily driver and has been very reliable, especially for a 14 year old car. Handling is very confident and acceleration with the 2zz engine is good. Ive also got the TRD clutch-type LSD which I would not recommend - I would prefer the factory helical LSD option instead.

Quick and nimble - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By nightbirdflyin - May 4 - 10:00 amI have had this vehicle for three years with not a hint of problems. Quick and nimble. 30mpg is a great tradeoff for a the lack of cargo space. If I take the metals out of my bag all my clubs fit in the storage area. I do have a ping carry bag. It has been running on Amsoil since the week I bought it.

Spyder Review - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By RidgeRunner - November 3 - 10:00 amCorners, as they say, as if on rails. Pleasantly surprised with the 39 MPG on the highway,(keeping under 65 MPH). Never had the opportunity to open it up, would love to see what it will do. Top easy to put up and down. Limitation is cargo space. Can fit enough for a weekend trip behind seat, but not much more. Disappointed that cannot get cruise control on my manual model nor get a trailer hitch to carry my bicycle rack. Other than that, love the car! Bud

Been trying to find an issue.. Cant seem to find one.. - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By themanindbox - May 19 - 3:40 amI have been looking for faults.. I honestly cant find any. At 12 years old, the most that has been replaced is Tires, Plugs, A tie Rod End, and the drop links on both sides, and a few sets of bulbs.. Thats about it.. Even the original speakers, and stock radio sounds good. The Top makes a little noise at 70+ which i think is just an adjustment. Other then that.. Honestly.. Just awesome!

Perfect in every way. - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By dskinner - February 8 - 1:30 pmThis vehicle replaced a Mazda Miata, which I loved dearly. After owning the Spyder for less than a week, I forgot all about the Miata! I love everything about the vehicle.

Great Car! - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By agf2002 - July 27 - 2:00 amThis car is A LOT OF FUN to drive! Beautiful design and resembles a Porcshe. Its very economical, and very easily turns in small places and is easy to park. But, it has to be driven slow in rain and snow. More than 2 inches of snow on the ground, and you might want to put a snow plow on it. The car fish-tails in bad weather when the gas is released, especially on turns.

spyder - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By chad - April 7 - 10:00 amyou meet the nicest people in a spyder. Everyone stops to look and comment on how cool it looks. I enjoy the sound of the engine, the grip of the road, the constant feel of being in control.

Great roadster - 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder
By Leon - October 1 - 9:03 amBeing from the era of the British Sport cars, this is a fine replacement for the Austin Healeys, the MGs and the Triumphs of those days, with the comforts of today.
