Pros:
  • All-new with a great engine, new body, and first-in-segment side-impact airbags, the 1998 Toyota Corolla is the best thing to hit the compact car market since the original VW Beetle.
Cons:
  • Shape is a bit dull.

Purchased the car new, excellent vehicle with great reliability. Best car we have ever owned, we will keep it for our grand kids and their kids. Car is getting to be a classic with excellent body lines, still looks like knew. The black flaked paint is awesome and people stop and ask about the color. Just a super car!

I am amazed that I still have the original muffler and pipes on this car! I have it serviced regularly and never had any "surprise" problems with it. Its got over 90,000 miles, is fuel efficient and I love it because its dependable, not because its "fun to drive". Maybe Ill upgrade to the Camry next time but Im sure happy with my Corolla!

The wife loves the car in all respects. I do not like its comfort level for me, although she is 5"1 and fits in it easily. I dont. Driving it is a pain for me at 510".

I bought my Corolla because I wanted a car that would last, I could depend on, and wouldnt require a lot of unexpected repair cost. I have not been disappointed. I love the gas mileage, I love the realibility (which is second to none.) I have 165K on it today, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Other than regular maintainence I have put nothing into this car. I think about buying something bigger because of the short backseat, however, I am scared to give up the dependability I have grown to expect.

Good car overall lacks power when loaded. Perfect commuter car with great gas milleage. Keep it tunned and oil changed and it will stay true to you

This corolla was more loyal than my dog, as sure as death and taxes to start up and run like a top. It never once stranded me. I feel stupid selling it, but its getting embarassing to drive. It drinks a quart of oil every 2 weeks for the last year, but adding it is no big deal.

This car is not too bad. It bottoms out in the rear all the time. The shocks should be better than the ones it came with. Had a problem with the seatbelt sensor and my front lightbulbs wear out quickly.

  • Reliable, Slightly Zippy Commuter Car - 1998 Toyota Corolla

My Corolla has been an excellent commuter car - great gas mileage (close to 30 around town), easy to drive, and even a little peppy when you need it. For the 5 years my wife and I have driven it weve had no problems with it. Although it can be sluggish when its loaded down. When my wife and I switched cars, my Camry for her Corrolla, I had to get use the less leg room and foot room.

Bought used @ 116k miles. Rear struts were gone, outer door gaskets crumbled. (but this is common for this model with age.) needed new cat. Converter @ 138k, my fault - didnt change the plug wires! Runs like a gazelle! (amazingly well!) 163k miles now, uses less than 1/8th qt oil in 5,000 miles - unbelievable! Smog chk only slightly higher than new car! With practice, can get 46 mpg highway, with the auto trans! Original starter, water pump, etc. Im 6,4" tall, 240 lbs, its a *bit* cramped, but for the $$, that it will likely run forever; gonna keep it til it falls apart! Change oil / trans fluid religiously, new plugs & wires, etc, should last 400k miles or more. $3.00 for gas, hah!

This is my fourth Toyota and 2nd Corolla. My first one - a 1990 is still going strong with my daughter who has now clocked it over 225000 miles last month! This is the greatest little travelling car going!
