Overview & Reviews
Subaru is building on last year's successful redesign of the Legacy by making a few additional improvements for 2006. For instance, Legacys with normally aspirated engines feature a new variable valve lift system that slightly improves horsepower and torque, while a new DVD-based navigation system has been made available on selected trim levels. The trim levels themselves have also changed slightly. The budget-performance 2.5 GT trim has been discontinued, leaving buyers to ante up for the pricier GT Limited. There's a new Spec B version of the GT Limited sedan with a firmer suspension and 18-inch wheels. Also note that GT wagons are no longer available with a manual gearbox. Base Legacy 2.5i sedans and wagons have bigger wheels, stronger brakes, an air filtration system and an engine immobilizer as standard equipment this year.

2006 Spec B review - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Todd - December 18 - 1:00 amDefinitely not worth the extra money for a specB. Subarus are designed by engineers, not by people who actually use the cars on a daily basis. Would I buy another one again? No, with emphasis! Too many annoying and poorly thought out features.

Best Four Wheel Drive Sedan - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By John - October 23 - 3:03 pmThe Legacy is without doubt the best four wheel drive sedan available when cost and quality are main considerations. Im impressed with everything about the car, from the comfortable but firm well bolstered seats to the crisp handling. The car seems tight as a drum, with a smooth engine that feeds off regular gasoline. While the consumption is lower than my previous car, Im averaging between 25-26 on mixed local and highway driving. Im eager to see how the car handles in snowy conditions, but based on comments from friends, I expect it will do well. Price, quality, unique engine configuration and awd make this car a great choice.

Fun to Drive and Reliable - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Charles in Bloomy - October 2 - 3:26 pmThis car is very well designed and quite zippy, even with the automatic shifting. The lift to 175HP this model year was a good thing and the 4-banger boxer engine is very quiet and responsive. With the rise in gas prices, a hybrid model down the road would be very welcome indeed!

They should charge more! - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By lorraine - August 10 - 2:26 amI bought this car as a single lady and then got married and added a couple kids. It fits life! Sexy, fast and fun but safe and dependable enough to put your family in it! I cant say enough about this car. The power is nuts. I cant believe the handling and of course it looks amazing for such a reasonable price. Lots of trunk space too.

Four-Channel ABS - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By era174 - July 18 - 11:33 amThis is my first all wheel drive car. i thought AWD is better in bad weather (snow, black ice, wet roads). Some experts at Edmunds Subaru forums pointed out SNOW TIRES are a key factor, not AWD. Of course, AWD with SNOW TIRES are better, but AWD alone doesnt help that much in bad weather. My salesperson showed me the four-channel ABS under the hood. Its much better than normal three or two-channel ABS found on almost every front wheel drive vehicles.

Great Value AWD Sedan - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By ccny - July 5 - 12:53 pmI tend to be a harsh reviewer so please bear that in mind with the ratings. I reserve "10" for perfection or near to it. That said, the LGT is a great value especially with end of the year incentives. The engine is responsive even with the auto transmission. On highway, its very smooth and quiet. I tend to drive fast over long stretches of highway for my daily commute so this car is great for a quiet and easy drive. Flex the ankle though and the car really moves. Handling is sharp for a 4 door sedan. I only get 21 MPG on mostly highway driving and cruising at 70 to 80. Ive also had some odd rattles but nothing terrible. All in all, great car for the money despite few quirks.

What a value - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By firstimesubyowner - July 1 - 11:40 amFor the money this car cant be beat. On highway, Im on it a lot, 30 mpg. Comfortable ride, handles well in all types of weather. Car feels very tight and secure. Looked at many cars but I just couldnt beat the value. Paid $23,700 with everything but Nav. The sport shift is fun to use once in a while. I had an 2004 A4 as a company car but I like this car better.

1 Year Review - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Troy - June 15 - 3:03 amI bought my Subaru a year ago and gave it rave reviews, and Im here to second the initial review. This car has been outstanding. I have had no problems whatsoever, and like it more each day. The leather still looks phenomenal, and I average around 28 mpg (highway and local combined - about equal parts). My only gripe is that this model year did not have an AUX jack for my iPod and lacked a folding rear seat, both of which have been rectified. Get one, youll love it.

2006 Legacy GT automatic w/nav - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By fisch - June 14 - 2:30 amI mainly purchased this vehicle because of the availability of all-wheel drive since I live in the state of Maine. It is a fun car to drive, completey different than the 2000 Acura TL that I drove prior to owning this car. It definitely exhibits quite a bit of road noise and and the idle isnt nearly as smooth as my Acuras was. I do have to admit that the acceleration in the sport mode is phenomenal. I am totally unimpressed with the gas mileage and thats while driving conservatively. Reminds me of my old Jeep with a gas hungry V8. You can almost see the gas gauge dropping as you drove.

Great choice for the snow belt - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Will - June 9 - 1:03 pmIf you live in the snow belt (Im in Alaska) its hard to argue with this choice. Subarus non-turbo models offer the best fuel economy currently available with AWD - I get 21 to 23 in the city (depending on time of year) and can get 30 on the highway (real numbers calculated at the pump). It would be nice if there were an AWD deactivation feature, but that might lessen safety and reliability. The cloth seats are great (leather is terrible in cold weather & bad for the environment/inhumane). You wont win drag races in this, but its the only thing available that offers its blend of reliability, safety, AWD, a manual transmission, and good fuel economy in the same package.
