Overview & Reviews
Mazda's first sport-utility vehicle since the departure of the Navajo half a decade ago, the Tribute combines car-like ride and handling with the ability to go in the snow and tote up to five passengers and a healthy amount of their luggage. With the most powerful V6 in its class, in addition to handsome looks and a spacious cabin, the Tribute should find huge success despite an increasingly crowded small-SUV marketplace.
- Stout V6 power, rugged good looks, roomy cabin, attractive pricing.
- Weak standard four-cylinder engine, no low-range transfer case.

Love this SUV!! - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Love this SUV!! - October 4 - 4:13 pmWe bought our Tribute new back in 2001 and absolutely love it. We now have 140,000 miles on it and the only servicing that it has needed has been the usual wear and tear. We have always had our servicing done at the dealer. Best of all...this SUV is great in the snow. I have never had a problem driving this vehicle in bad weather. I average about 20 mpg. We also had a Miata and finally departed with that car after it had 250,000 miles on it. What can I say about Mazda.......they make reliable cars as long as you do your part in maintaining them.

Love my Tribute - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By bevhath - September 27 - 10:16 pmIve had this 2001 for little over 2 yrs now, over 105K miles. ONLY problem Ive had is running rough when you first start it and occassionally rough "surges" at stop lights/signs. Any idea what that can be? Fun to drive, radio not very good, was hoping for a little better gas milage - gets around 18 around town & 24-25 long haul driving (interstates, etc). Looking for another in addition to this one now!

Get what you pay for - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By pegness - September 9 - 10:00 amThis vehicle is basically very good- nothing has happened in the past 2+ years. Transmission worries me, it seems to shift endlessly in rural driving. Very basic interior, but it is a cheaper SUV. Gas mileage is not what we thought-seems everyone has that opinion. Not wanting to spend 30K, it has been a good purchase. Next one, though, will be of superior quality.

lots of car with a nice price tag! - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By sdz4747 - September 6 - 9:40 amLove driving the car, SUV look but handles like a car. Great get up & go! My husband is looking at buying a Porche Cayenne & still says my car drives great compared to it. Have had only minor problems with the car... tape player has never worked right, was under warranty but didnt get it fixed, never used it so always forgot! Cable on drive gear broke ($200) & now my drivers side door handle is broke.

tributes are terrible - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Gary Moore - August 23 - 1:46 amHere is a car that after 96,000 miles (50,000 of which were highway), now requires a valve compression job ($2100) in addition to spark plug and coil replacements ($750). To me that is unacceptable and has convinced me along with the other problems weve had (several times for the emissions light, stalling while simply driving down the road) NEVER to buy another Mazda product again.

Great SUV - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By MAZDA GUY - July 9 - 10:00 amI have been drving (and enjoying) my ES for almost two years (17,000 miles) and I love it. the ONLY problem I have experienced with it is the coolant light has been on for most of the time I have owned the vehicle, it is a small problem that I had checked my a local mechanic but not worth my time to take it to the dealership to have it fixed. I have had several Mazdas including a 93 929 (latest body style), and a 98 Millenia. The Tribute has more power and can handle better than either of them while giving the feeling of still being in a luxury car.

GOTTA LOVE THE SPEED!!! - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By PO-APS - July 6 - 10:00 amWhen I first test drive this car, I fell in love with its great acceleration capability. Right now I have a modified muffler, so everytime I drive this car I feel like Iam driving a race car. This car is like a cross- breed between an SUV and a race car. FLOOR IT BABY!!!

My Tribute - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Nejao - June 11 - 10:00 amIt si a very reliably vehicle. Since I bhought in Nov/2000 the cars never gave me a trouble. Even though it is not a luxury vehicle, The tribute worth its price. This one is fully loaded and I paid only $25.000 while others SUVs with the same optionals would be around $29000. I recommend you the Tribute from Mazda.

a lot of trouble - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Pat Doke - April 25 - 9:20 pmWe have had a lot of trouble with our Tribute. Currently, with 50K on it, I have at least one major repair every 3000 miles. Thats more often than an oil change. You name it - power steering, engine idle, stalling, brakes, windshield wipers, tire wear, door handles ($200 each installed) and now a complete wiring harness replacement. The worst vehicle Ive ever owned.
