Overview & Reviews
Mazda's first sport-utility vehicle since the departure of the Navajo half a decade ago, the Tribute combines car-like ride and handling with the ability to go in the snow and tote up to five passengers and a healthy amount of their luggage. With the most powerful V6 in its class, in addition to handsome looks and a spacious cabin, the Tribute should find huge success despite an increasingly crowded small-SUV marketplace.
- Stout V6 power, rugged good looks, roomy cabin, attractive pricing.
- Weak standard four-cylinder engine, no low-range transfer case.

Loved the 1st one so much I got a 2nd - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By stormy - August 10 - 10:00 amMy first Tribute was a 2001 and I had no problems with it. The only reason I decided to change out for a new one was when the 2001 tribute was about 8 mths old we were hit from behind and flipped onto the drivers side. I was very happy with how it performed in the accident. My 9 mth old slept through it from the back seat! 9k damage repaired (mostly cosmetic) it now had squeaks that couldnt be found. One thing that is still slightly strange to me is that there is only one keyhole on the entire vehicle.

Great SUV - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Roth - August 1 - 5:03 amIve had my Tribute for 1 year and its been everything Id hoped for in the 30k miles Ive put on it so far. Its big enough to haul almost anything I need to move, it drives and handles great in any condition, including sand and deep snow, it even does great when pulling a trailer. There are a couple minor problems; wind noise is louder than it should be, and the Ford built automatic transmission shutters if you dont frequently flush the tranny fluid. Gas mileage tops out near 20 even on the highway The gear shift selector blocks the radio controls, but you get used to that. Overall, its a great little SUV for the money.

2001 Mazda Tribute is a Great Vehicle - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Eva - April 22 - 6:40 pmI purchased a 2001 Mazda Tribute in 2000. I have driven over 75,000 miles. This is a great vehicle. I have had no major problems with this vehicle. The only two problems I experienced was a broken door handle (inside) in about year three and about three months ago an EGR valve had to be replaced. The door handle cost was $75 dollars and the EGR valve $120. These are the only expenses I have had with my vehicle as far as repairs. This is a great everyday vehicle. Its roomy, the steering is excellent, it runs great and stops on a dime. Im going into my fifth year driving this vehicle and I plan to drive it five more. My Tribute is well worth the $16,700 I paid for it back in 2000.

Great vehicle - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Rob Ellis - February 20 - 2:00 amIve had my 2001 Tribute for over three years now and I am very happy with it. The engine performance is very adequate and I have had very few problems. The few problems I have had were covered under warranty. The service plan under the waranty has been great because it includes rental car coverage.

Best SUV for under $30,000 - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By lachom - January 12 - 10:00 amI have owned my Tribute for a year and a half now. I usually replace my vehicles every one to two years, however this one is staying with me for a while. I love to drive this little SUV. Its like driving a tall sport sedan. Tight, Fast and sweet to look at. The best line I ever heard about the Tribute is...It looks and feels like you spent a lot more.

Pizza love - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By frichardc - October 14 - 2:00 amLoved the vehicle when I first got it and most of my 39 month lease. Lately it has developed electrical and mechanical problems. Warning lights come on when nothing is wrong. The windshield has developed a leak and worse of all the transmission shudders when shifting in and out of overdrive. I was going to by it but am now happy to return it to the dealer with only 26000 miles on it.

Mazda Tribute Lemon - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Tim - August 30 - 11:20 amAfter buying this I had to take it back the next day for a leak on the transmission. They had to replace the rear seal and plug. Since then I have had the brakes, battery, brake booster, window controls, cruise control, gas tank, gas cap replaced (along with a few other items). Now the transmission went out, wonder if it is related to the original leak. $3300 for a transmission, what a rip off. Please do not buy one, or any Mazda. Service here is not the best either.

Tribute Overall enjoyed but.... - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Sonaran - June 9 - 2:00 amOverall, I have enjoyed my Tribute since getting it in 2001 but I have had some problems. One losing power while driving-2001. In 2002, I had to have the brake lines and coolant lines replaced due to a leak as well as the stalling problem started again. The delearship replaced everything except for the engine and electrical lines. 2003, I had to have some of my electrical parts replaced-OBDII light came on one night and the next day my Tribute wouldnt start. But despite all of this-I really like my Tribute and even though I have had problems. So,Im thinking of either getting 2004 or 2005 model.

am ready to trade it in - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By rep62ar - May 2 - 10:00 amI bought this car new and loved the look and feel. It was the right size for me - a small SUV. I am about to bring it in for my fourth round of warranty work, however, for four different problems. After dealing with the well documented stall problem, air bag light (will go in tomorrow for that) and problem starting/losing power when slowing down due to air intake valve among other problems, I am fed up. I cant even get my local dealership to give me a receipt for the last warranty work done. This car is not worth the hassle.
