Overview & Reviews
Lexus' flagship was completely redesigned last year. The only addition for 2002 is a new Platinum Blue Metallic exterior paint.
- Superb ride quality, impressive array of standard and optional luxury features, top-notch interior materials.
- Not quite as athletic as its competitors, adding options raises the price to un-Lexus-like levels.

Smooth - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By Tony - October 18 - 3:36 amThis is the first used Lexus I ever purchased. I have been strictly a Mercedes guy up until now and didnt know quite what to expect. This 2002 LS430 is the most quiet, smooth riding car I have ever been in, far surpassing my many Mercedes and the few Rolls and Bentleys I have been in. It is, without a doubt, the finest car ever made.

Certified Buyer - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By Eric L. - September 21 - 7:03 amI bought this car as certified and received an extra 3 years or up to 100k miles on it so that makes me comfortable. I am 64" and weigh 240 lbs and I found this car to be quite comfortable and spacious for my size. The head room is plentiful as well the leg room in the front. I got out of the vehicle and sat in the rear passenger seat directly behind the driver and my legs did not touch the seat. The acceleration for a luxury sedan is great. On the open road I would accelerate to the low three digits and the car kept up with my demands. Also I found the drive to be very smooth, quiet, relaxing, fun and enjoyable.

Love this car! - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By Norge - August 26 - 2:00 amPurchased as a CPO with 43,000 on the clock. Looked high and low for a black on black and finally found one. I have put 60,000 miles on the car (it has 104,000 now) and love it every time I get in it. Drives great, handles well and brakes hard and solid. Very smooth ride and still beautiful! Only issue was one of the mirrors would not fold all the way. Dealer replaced both under warranty with 2006 mirrors and promised they will outlast the car. Trunk struts went out too and were also replaced. Only issue is with the center arm rest. All the padding is gone. No idea but it is flat. Everything else works like new! Ac is ice cold and the heated seats could cook eggs.

By abassi - August 21 - 10:00 amI had an LS400 back in 1994 and was very happy with it but after about 100k miles I drove a 1997 Mercedes S420 and I liked it and bought it drove that for about 40k miles and trouble began after all it was a mercedes and not a lexus traded it for another lexus and have driven nothing but lexus ever since and now I own 2 Lexus vehicles and I love my new LS430 it is quieter and has a softer ride and the best navigation in the market due to it being touch screen.

Great car! - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By lymanls2 - July 22 - 10:43 amThe car does everything a luxury sedan should do, and does it well. It is dependable, good looking, smooth riding, powerful, spacious inside without being bulky outside, and has a big trunk for lots of cargo. I could not be happier with a car.

Had Them All....540, M5, S500, C4Turbo - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By imvulpine - July 9 - 10:00 amThis machine is an excellent balance of power, comfort, design and efficiency. Reliabilty speaks for itself. Punch it, it moves. Not like a C4, but pretty close. Sit in it. You pick: drive it if its moving. Sleep if its still. Looks are conservative, but interesting. Gas mileage is as advertised, 18 city, 25+ highway. I drive very fast. Machine handles the same at 115 mph as at 30 mph. Quiet, smooth, stuck to to the road. Very nice.

Great car-----except for..... - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By carbuff - March 22 - 10:50 pmI have owned every luxury car known to man. This is the best. This is the second LS that I have owned. It is dealer certified with 28,000 miles and was almost $20,000 less than a brand new one. You cant go wrong buying a certified car. I dont think that there is a better car made at any price -- including the Mercedes S model. You might find more features -- but not a better car.

Be reasonable in expectations - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By Eriks - December 17 - 3:00 amAfter following Edmunds reviews I finally decided to purchase the 2002 model with all options included. The car is reasonably well built but has its limits. The engine starting process is rather loud to compare with idle. Steering wheel leather deteriorated quickly. Instead of road noise, the wheels/tires seem to produce constant unpleasant hiss. Two separate thermometers show outside temperature while the driver has no idea what the inside temp levels are. Sound system is good but with very limited adjustment possibilities. Radio often loses station in city driving and this downgrades the overall sound. Change of gears from 2nd to 3rd is late for 1 sec driving normally without kick-down.

Fantastic car! - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By BeemerBill13 - August 29 - 12:13 pmI bought a 2002 LS430 with 78,000 miles on it in Feb. 2008. I sold my 1997 LS400 for this and what a difference! You wouldnt know this car from new, no dings, dents, or scratches! The previous owner serviced it with regularity. The car has the Ultra Luxury package so it has every option offered. I drive mostly highway miles and am impressed with getting 25+ (up to 27.5 already) driving it! A good solid ride. I am very pleased with it after 8 months of ownership and 9,000 miles.

Great Car - 2002 Lexus LS 430
By Doc T - July 25 - 2:03 amI bought this car used 64k, it has been one of the better cars Ive owned. I have had all the big ones except Jag. This is up there with the Benzs and Bimmers, I have only replaced the battery and tires but it has been very dependable. Gets 25mpg on hiway. Nice sound system. One Sunday I drove 12 hours from Jersey to Detroit sleeping for about 2 hours in the car, attended a service and turned around and drove 12 hours back. 60 miles from home before I had to stop and sleep again.
