  • good until 100K - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

I purchased my Jeep Cherokee 6 years ago with 73,000 miles on it. I loved the way I could go anywhere on/off road. I had no problems until she hit 100,000 miles. My A/C stopped working after many trips to the auto shop I gave up on having A/C. Then my heater quit working! I have gone through 2 rad.s in 2 years, blew a head once and still to this day have no heat and A/C. I dont think my problems have anything to do with the build I, think whoever had her before me didnt take care of her.

I bought my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 7 years ago and loved it! It took me everywhere and could do about anything. Ride was a bit rough, but thats a Jeep. Last month I was hit in the rear by an Expedition doing 60 mph. I made it through the accident with only a mild concussion, unfortunately, my Jeep did not make it. It was still going strong with 161,000 miles on it. I miss driving it everyday. I am now out looking for a new Jeep, but only go with used because I want the 4.0L I6 motor!!

  • The Best SUV Ever - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

The original SUV was, and is the best. Its reasonably economical, quick and agile, and combines the ruggedness of a true truck frame with agility (the agility is helped by the aftermarket, stiffer shocks I installed along with slightly wider high-performance tires). And it can go pretty much anywhere. My 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4.0 has more than 180,000 miles on it - yet when I change the oil after 4000 miles, the dipstick still shows full! Ive never had an engine with this level of longevity. With its NP242 Selec-Trac transfer case, in addition to 2WD and 4WD Hi & Lo it also has Full Time All-Wheel Drive - in this mode on wet pavement its like having an Audi Quattro or BMW X-Drive.

This Jeep is what I consider an average SUV. It is definitely not carlike. It is great off-road and in the snow. Its not so great for stop and go traffic or higher freeway speeds. The ride tends to be rough around town, but its pretty smooth on a good highway. The engine has great power but sucks way too much gas for its size. The styling is better than most SUVs out there. The interior is smaller than it would seem by looking at it from the outside. There are rattles here and there, especially from the transfer case shifter, and the exhaust can be a little loud at times. Overall, this jeep has some good features and some bad. Its average.

  • Jeep Cherokee Rocks! - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

We bought this SUV when we moved into a neighborhood in New Hampshire where the roads were unpaved and the 1/2 mile of road to our new house rutty, muddy, and not maintained by our town. This Jeep has performed beautifully in the multiple ice and snowstorms we have had and has done nicely in getting me out of the driveway when a foot of snow was still on the ground. I absolutely love the style of the Cherokee and do love the way it handles. I am so sad they have discontinued it!

  • First SUV-Disappointed - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Leased it in September of 2000. Tremendous ability in the snow but thats about it. Had front brake rotors replaced at 6000 miles due to warping. Then had new rotors resurfaced at 17,000 miles due to warping. Nobody at the dealership can tell me why this vehicle is burning up front rotors. I have an annoying whine coming from the transmission area but the dealership says thats normal. Thank God its a 3 year lease with a waranty. Looking forward to getting rid of it.

  • Rotors, A/C and Noises - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

The rotor/pads for the front disk breaks suck! My first replacements were at 23k! I had to call Daimler/Chrysler in Detroit to get them replaced "under warranty". Though I finally had them replaced at 23k; theyd been bad since 16.5k! Did I mention that the brakes were shot again at 42k? The A/C compressor has also gone out twice and, lets not forget all of the "cold interior" noises that Ive been living with. I cannot recommend it as an "every day commuter/family vehicle.

Its defenitely a step down from my explorer in comfort/size. However I get better milage and better performance. It handles dirt roads at fast speeds and in 2-wheel-drive mode it can smoke the tires. Responsive accelerator, not the best braking. Very small in the back compared to a Ford Explorer. My roomate who is 65" hates it because it is too small. The ladies love it.

  • Poor Quality - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

I have been very dissapointed with the 2000 Jeep I bought. It has had a lot of problems while under warranty and seems to be having problems since. As soon as I can break even on a trade in Im getting rid of it.

  • FANTASTIC VEHICLE - 2000 Jeep Cherokee

Weve had the Cherokee for 2 months and already have put 6k miles on it. Fantastic ride both on the road and off. Handles the Denver traffic with ease, takes on the Rocky Mountains too!!!
