Overview & Reviews
For 2006, a diesel engine upgrade is the most significant change to the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. The Duramax 6.6-liter engine receives a host of power and refinement upgrades, as well as reduced emissions. Additionally, the Allison automatic transmission is now a six-speed, and features a tap-shift range selection mode. The only other noteworthy updates are a new design for the optional power camping/towing exterior mirrors and slightly updated front-end styling.
- Powerful engine lineup, multiple drivetrain configurations, substantial towing and hauling capacities.
- Spotty build quality, mediocre interior design and materials.

Front end shaking Between 40-50mph - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Popeye - December 8 - 6:10 amSilverado 2500hd diesel 2006. From the day I bought it there was a shaking in the front left side only noticeable between 40/50 mph. They said it was the tires, but have put two new sets on and problem is still there. Seems like a shake in the frame or chasie posiblely, due to lack of weight in the rear end of truck. Can feel it in the wheel and also in the seat while driving.Shaking not as noticable at other speeds but still there.Could be something in the drive shaft also. Looking for some answers.

Nice Ride - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Robert - October 18 - 6:26 amI now have 67000 miles on my Silverado and I still love it. The LBZ Duramax has never had a wrench on it and the Allison transmission is bulletproof. I regularly tow 10K lb. loads with it and it get 12-13mpg at 80mph through the North Carolina foothills. The ride is exceptionally smooth when compared to my two previous SuperDuty trucks. I got 26mpg on an unloaded trip over three different tanks of fuel averaging 60mph. Great quality. Great resell value. I would definitely consider buying another when the time comes...

Best Diesel Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By chivo - September 4 - 7:50 pmI had a 1500HD with the 6.0 before this one and loved everything but the gas mileage. Then I got the LBZ Duramax and love it! The mileage, HP & TQ are amazing. I especially enjoy the manual transfer case I was lucky to get my hands on. Only one issue and thats the driver side suspension knocks occasionally. I think it may be due to the weight of the D-max. Other than that, I love it!

Solid, well-built truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Danl - May 22 - 3:03 amShopped Ford, Dodge, but Chevy was the best value. This thing will pull your house down. The 4auto shifts smoothly and solidly. The motor growls with plenty of low-end torque. Tons of room in the back for kids, etc. Gas mileage around 14..better than Ford or Dodge. Great work truck.

No:1 truck to buy - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By homealone069 - April 11 - 2:09 pmI have a 2006 Silverado Pickup,2500 HD 4x4.Ive owned chevys most of my life, because of the performance, and reliability. This truck from the first day going out hunting, going through scrub-oak,blazing new trails, climbing the sides of mountains on the nastiest roads you ever want to imagine, going through water 3 feet deep, and it keeps on going. When I needed the power it was there, wether pulling a trailer up 6% grades in 6"s of mud,and it never quit.Ive done all these things will my truck, and its still in great shape, and it has never been in the shop for any malfunctions. They just need to make the front bumper narrower, and raise the truck about 2"s higher.Thats the only change there shouldbe

Duramax is great - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By kacansas - June 29 - 9:53 amThis one of the best vehicles I have ever owned! That is out of 40 to 50! It has never let me down and has helped me help other in deep snow, on ice, in the heat and in the cold. It has a Cadillac ride plus the capacity to tow a house! What more can you want from a vehicle? Good ecomony for what you drive? Well it delivers on that too! I have gotten over 27 mpg highway and get 22 city all the time! Yeah I know I can get a hybrid that can do 50 mpg but it cant do anything but hual me. My truck can do a lot more so I love my truck!

Deadbeat Duramax - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By agmakar - May 8 - 12:06 amI think I bought a Monday morning vehicle. The rear differential leaks, and I get abhorrent fuel mileage. 8 MPG when towing a 7500 pound trailer and adequate mileage not towing (16 MPG) I took it to the the Chevy dealership twice for the leaking problem. It happens when driving it on the highway or towing. They added an inline filter in the breather hose, not much help, it slows the process down until the filter fills up, then it leaks out of the tube. The third time I take it to a different dealer, they replace the inline filter with a smaller one and the want to re-tap a new location for the breather tube right on the rear axle housing and plug up the old one on top of the pumpkin.

huge fuel filter problem - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By hughessk - June 18 - 8:00 amthis is a great truck as long as you only use premium fuel and drive it in warm climates. the fuel filter will clog if you use bio fuel, or a lower grade fuel. when the filter clogs the engine will go into a 2000 rpm lockdown and will not shift. this will happen even after truck is warm, the first time you try to merge onto the expressway in rush hour traffic, at 25 degree weather and snow covered road, YOU WILL BE IN FOR THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE or FOR YOUR LIFE. I have 900000 miles on this truck and have had to replace the fuel filter ($35) 11 times??? I have purchased fuel from 15 different stations. CHEVROLET SOLUTION " use premium fuel, Use an addative($11)and let the truck idle 20 minutes

06 2500HD - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By SamuraiSV - July 15 - 8:03 pmFor the price the sub-par interior quality is acceptable. The 6-liter has good power as long as the RPMs are kept up. The transmission is a bit hard to cram into reverse or first and shifting can be a bit notchy at times, reminding me of the 30-year-old pick up I owned in high school. Paint quality is poor with a fairly noticeable orange peal appearance. A major up is a comfortable 3-piece bench seat that feels more like a bucket. Over all for about 21k it will do most work thrown at it.
