Overview & Reviews
This long overdue redesign of the S90 counts several firsts to its credit: first with a transverse inline six, first with fully integrated GSM phone, first to carry an environmental specification (Europe only at introduction) and the S80 boasts the world's smallest manual transmission.
- Safety. Comfort. Performance of the S80 T6. Interesting styling.

Horrible Experience - 1999 Volvo S80
By crode22 - August 26 - 5:03 amI purchased this car with 70,000 miles on it. I had it for 3 months when the power steering column broke that was 1k to fix, a few months later I have to get brakes fixed, this costs 1k for all four brakes. Now it is leaking oil and though I bought it for 15k two years ago I cant get more than 3k for a trade in. This car is fun to drive but not at all reliable.

Wont Go Back! (To other makes of cars) - 1999 Volvo S80
By Volvo Family - August 6 - 10:00 amBought car after driving a Volvo rental. Just loved it. The car just wants to be driven! Its been in for service for minor things and did get the software updated which solved alot of computer messages. This was first year for this new body style/model and there were some bugs to get out. Ive been driving it over a year and have taken it halfway across the country and back (among other, shorter trips) and have never been so comfortable as I have in this car.

Run away! - 1999 Volvo S80
By Sherrill - July 31 - 6:40 amI wish the reviews had been available before we bought the car because we sure wouldnt have. It has been a nightmare. We have probably paid half as much on repairs as we paid for the car. We just keep pumping money into it because it is paid for and we dont want another car payment so we feel trapped. The body parts are even falling off (headliner, etc)

At 138,000 miles,Ive put it to the test - 1999 Volvo S80
By KenFuller - July 30 - 10:00 amOkay, heres the scoop, this car is great! I use my S80 for business and I generally run about 30,000 miles per year. I bought my T6 new and I now have about 138,000 miles. This has been my favorite of any car Ive owned. The first year I did have some reliability troubles. Volvo released the new software which the dealer loaded in for free. Ever since then, the car has been remarkable. Only repair after that was a light bulb and regular maintenance (oil changes, filters, etc.) Maintenance has been very low priced. Without a doubt, I would certainly buy another 1999 S80 T6. Its been the best car Ive owned!

Solid but not flashy look or performance - 1999 Volvo S80
By Die Hard - May 17 - 2:00 amSolid car and reliable if not uninspiring. Surprising strong at higher rpms, surprising sluggish at lower rpms. Looks are modest, interior design nice, comfortable. Traction control lacking, particularly given its fwd. Brakes are excellent. Fold down rear seat great for cargo. One light out in the center console...never replaced...$80 price quote...always lights out on our Volvos V70s, XC, and S80.

This is a Volvo!! - 1999 Volvo S80
By grod - March 26 - 12:46 amI had always heard of the safety and reliability of a Volvo. After every problem from mechanical to electrical (replaced front end twice). Was told trade in value was $4000. This is from the same dealership that took thousands from me in repair costs. Wrecked the car two weeks ago and received $9,000 from insurance. This car is worth more totaled than running.

Early problems but then 3 great years - 1999 Volvo S80
By bruce- - February 26 - 2:00 amFirst year was tough, with problems with mass air sensor and electric fan which failed. Ball joints replaced on recall and engine mounts replaced during 30K mi service . But, we figured that we would have some problems, since the car was First Year of Issue! We have the car now for 3 3/4 years and can honestly report that since the end of year 1, the car has run flawlessly and is very fast and comfortable.

Dont worry, be happy! - 1999 Volvo S80
By Norskie4 - February 26 - 2:00 amBought the car used, at a fantastic deal due to the initial problems that now seem to have been fixed. Car rides like a dream, very fast and comfortable, huge trunk and a sound system that is some of the best that can be had out there. With Volvo safety added, this feels like a steal as a used car value.

No more Saabs for me! - 1999 Volvo S80
By No-More-Saabs - January 29 - 2:00 amI have now owned three Saab models which have been relatively nice vehicles. I decided to take a closer look at Volvos flagship vehicle when it was released. To my surprise I wound up trading in my tired Saab for Volvos S80 T6 sedan. This is a great car! The car was just over $50,000 out the door and the dealer wouldnt budge much on the price. Regardless, no regrets on this car. The car now has over 90,000 miles of trouble free driving. Runs nicer than any other car Ive owned. Much more comfortable than my previous Saabs and acceleration to leave all other luxury cars in the dust (most sports cars too.) All around, this is great car!

S-80 problems - 1999 Volvo S80
By WCG - January 19 - 6:46 amLots of computer problems. Not my usual experience with a Volvo.
