Overview & Reviews
The radio display and anti-theft system have been updated. A brake-wear indicator is now standard on all models.
- Fun-to-drive, excellent value, functional and comfortable interior.
- Slight turbo lag on four-cylinder models, body rolls through tight corners.

A Machine, Not a Appliance - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By BCarl - May 11 - 8:23 amIf you are not familiar with cars then dont bother buying one. This is car more than any Honda or Toyota appliance. Yes, I had my share of issues (vacuum hoses, MAF, fuel pump) but they are all things that can be replaced by the owner. Or find a good independent shop, you just expecting the worse when you go to the dealer. The car feels solid, drives beautiful, and has good power for a 4-cyl. Plus I average 28 MPG in mixed driving.

German Stalwart - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By kissfan - April 21 - 10:00 amNot even a hiccup of a problem after $65k. The fuel economy has been terrific, averageing 30 MPG during my daily commute. The performance is solid and the fit and finish is industry leading, as expected in VW/Audi products. Cup holders are insufficient, but usable. New passengers in the car alway comment on the interior lights. Love the turbo, next to no lag. Say no to Accords and Camrys and make a statement.

Fine Car for Big Dogs. - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By Mumphry Rauschenberg - April 16 - 10:00 amThis driver is over 6 feet tall and almost 300 lbs, and the Passat is the only smallish car I find comfortable. Interior dimensions are generous and headroom is still good with the power sunroof. Seats and seating position are perfect. Wierdest feature: Multi-function display on dash informs you in a teutonic way ("Refill washer fluid!!!"). Unexpected feature: Lock the car 3 times and the sunroof closes.

Style and Dependability - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By MatthewVW - February 8 - 10:00 amAfter 4 years, my Passat still has a lot of punch and is a lot of fun to drive. Never had any significant problems. The factory stereo is good, but not awesome. The cup holders are too small. But other than that, no complaints.

Great for comfort and handling. - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By fridaynight - December 31 - 10:00 amI bought this car as an alternative to a minivan b/c I was commuting. At the time I had one child and one on the way. It handles excellently and is very comfortable to sit in. You can fit a lot of stuff in the back and theres plenty of leg room in the back seat for the kids in their car seats. You can also comfortably fit 2 car seats and one adult in the back, or 3 car seats. Great acceleration even with the A/C on and low engine noise at any speed.

Good car, reliability not good - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By ma3770 - November 29 - 2:00 amMy vehicle currently has over 100,000 miles. Initial impressions during the first 25000 miles were very positive. The car handled decently, the ride was firm, the V6 engine had smooth power. Gas mileage has been constant at an OK 22 combined city/highway. Subsequent impressions were not as good due to overall reliability problems. I could cut and paste the problems mentioned in other reviews/forums, such as leaking cylinder head gaskets, leaking cam seals, tie rod replacement, new ABS module, control arm joints, and a host of various other problems. Repair bills over the years were exorbitant, much of which was due to the high cost of replacement parts.

Great Car - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By Queenbee - October 27 - 10:00 amThis car has been a wonder. My husband and I both drive it with complete satisfaction. The handling is excellant and the gas mileage fair.. much better long distance than city. Our friends are amazed with the room in the back seats. Our dog loves the fold down seat in the back for her riding pleasure. Absolutely no problems starting in cold, driving in snow or storms. We have had nothing to fix this past year. Only routine checkups.

This was a fabulous car - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By Cabrilla - October 26 - 2:13 amI bought my Passat wagon used, with about 42K miles on it, as the second owner. It was fun to drive, handled well, and was a pleasure to own for nearly 8 years. For 3 years I drove it on a 140mi commute (RT). It also made several long-distance (1000+ miles RT) road trips every year with no problems. Overall, it was extremely reliable. They had to adjust the mass air sensor the first week I had it. Other than regularly scheduled maintenance, there werent any issues for 5 years of moderate to very heavy driving. I had to have the head gaskets replaced on the engine at about 130K miles. The ABS braking chip needed replacing at about 150K miles.
