  • Be Ready to MAke Repairs - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

The 2006 VW Paassat costs too much to keep up. The engine-related problems thhat mine has experienced include oil pump replacement at 84,781 miles ($995.00), instrment panel warning lites, throttle body malfunction, engine coolant temp. sensor replacement, a tie rod end, dealer front end aligment ($120), and replacement of the brake hydraulic unit. All repairs were made within 40,000 miles. The emmission controls problomatic.

  • This car is a monster - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

While I love to drive this car, it is a repair nightmare. The car has only 33,000 miles on it and I have already purchased a new clutch and timing belt. Not to mention the myriad spooky electrical problems and the fact that the "emissions workshop" light is almost always on no matter what I do. Run, dont walk, away from volkswagen. The car is truly unreliable, and the service is awful. (My car was completely dead and they wouldnt even look at it for 3 weeks!)

  • Nice vehicle, poor reliability - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I got this vehicle used, so part of the problem may be that the seller didnt tell me anything. However, since I have had the vehicle, there have just been way too many repairs (tunk release, water leaks in the trunk, dead engine, unalighned frame, short circuited cd player). Anyway, Ive had to pay for all of this because the car was out of warranty. While these arent the only problems, VW service is horrible. Ive come to them several times with problems, and they charge me but cant answer them, or fix something the wrong way, leading me to seak help from others.

  • I wanted to love this car - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I thought we had found the perfect car. The clean lines, nearly perfect ergonomics, elegant interior and great road manners made me forget that I was driving a station wagon. Unfortunately, the car was bedeviled by endless quality problems that had us endlessly returning to the shop over and over. On 3 different occasions, it blew major engine or transmission seals with catastropic results. The electrical system shorted repeatedly and countless other little things went wrong. Thank God we had an extended warranty.

  • My wonderful Passat wagon! - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I bought my 2000 Passat wagon used, in 2008, now in 2015, 166000 miles. I am still loving this car. It is fully loaded, heated seats, automatic mirror adjustments. Climatron system is great, also the monsoon sound system is amazing. Its a great soccer mom car, love the hatchback, which makes it easy to open and throw in backpacks, sporting stuff as well as groceries, and back seats fold down easily, if transporting something long. I am a small woman, and the car is very comforable, back seats are like your living room sofa. I havent had many problems with it and I drive it all the time.l The one issue is, the car is sort of low and you have to watch going over speed bumps and such. I have had to fix the mufflers a few times but other than that, it been fine, and I love the smooth driving nature of this car. I would get another one, but this one is still going strong, and also, it a great looking car, very classy looking and still looks great even for 15 years old.

  • Love the car but tooo many problems - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I absolutely loved this car until the last 2 years after the warranty expired. had to replace way too many parts, like noc sensor, cluster, tie rods, entire cooling system. Otherwise the car is great to drive.

  • Nice Ride - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

This has been a great wagon. Plenty of power, smooth ride, and comfortable. I have not had any reliability issues in the first 24,000 miles. Has never been back to the dealership for anything. Nice sound system (monsoon) and paint job. Fit and finish is excellent I really like the heated seats. (*Get the V-6 if you can afford it. The gas mileage is about the same as the smaller turbo and has noticeably more torque when climbing hills under load.)

  • Not that Bad - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

Let me just say that I went into my 2000 Volkswagen Passat from my college car (a Saturn) so naturally I was floored when I stepped on the gas and it actually went! This car is a still a head turner and gets parked in the front with BMWs and Mercedes at valet. The Tiptonic transmission makes this car take off like a rocket. Beware of repairs on this car that arent under warranty though, they are COSTLY! Fortunatly I cant say Ive had any issues with it mechanically. I intend to make my next car another Passat. Its fun to drive and looks great! You will also command a little respect when you pull up at the valet at Benihana! I was surprised to come out and see my car parked in front!

  • It figures - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I bought this car brand new in 00 The reviews were consistant. This car is a winner. At 26k the cd changer failed ($500). At 39k I need a complete brake overhaul ($700). At 79k the emission light came on and the dealer reset it. At 87k the light came on again and the dealer told me because of cheap gas my converters went bad. I Use premium, get 24 mpg. Like I going to spend 3K on new cats. Federal law mandates that cat s be warranted for 80k (HUM). At 91k the water pump went. At 92k Right side valve cover leaking. 97k same problem at 102k the right side head gasket blew. Last week at 102k the oil leaked on the cats, the car went up in flames!

  • "Drivers wanted" --Mechanic Required - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

It has been a fabulous car to drive. After two years electronic systems started to go haywire. Service and Customer service are non-responsive and for the most part non-existant. Repair costs are obviously inflated. Great car, but will never buy VW again because of service nightmares from day 1.
