Overview & Reviews
Volkswagen offers two generations of the Jetta for sale in 1999. The third-generation Jetta has been around since 1993, and it is a carryover for 1999. VW deletes the GT, K2 and GLS models from the lineup, leaving only the GL, GLX, TDI and Wolfsburg models. Later in the model year, the company introduces a completely redesigned Jetta with a smooth new European body, improved versions of the base inline four and the VR6 and a simplified lineup of GL, GLS and GLX models. If you can hold out for a 2000 model, VW will offer a 150-hp 1.8-liter turbo for the GLS.
- Fun to drive, comfortable ride, available VR6, solid construction, rich interior materials, lots of standard features, generous 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
- Some controls hard to decipher, CD player should be standard, expensive compared with other compact sedans.

I loved my Jetta - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By noofie - June 4 - 10:00 amI loved my Jetta until some jerk pulled out in front of it and totaled it. However, my daughter and I both were unharmed basically. I never had any probelms with the car except for the power windows broke alot. They are expensive to fix! I was never stranded because the car was very reliable. Overall, I enjoyed the car immensely.

Great car - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By vw4life - March 31 - 6:00 amA great car... The 2.0 liter engine could do with more horses though...the styling is great and handling is superb !!! I have not had any major complaints about the car (the cup holder did break in winter)No electrical problems...no engine problems. the stock tires were horrible (goodyear) replaced them at 36K miles (antenna was stolen once.. I have 45K miles on it now and I still love driving the car... wish I had gone for the vr6... waiting for the 2003 vr6

Great German Car - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By jettaguy - October 25 - 10:00 amBe Nicer!! Any car made in Mexico is gonna have some bugs. Ive had some minor issues, nothing my mechanic and I couldnt help. After 55k miles, and regular maintenence I couldnt be happier. I drive hard, and fast, I punish my engine and brakes. Theyve never let me down. * a note for those of you who are always in the shop... make sure that the mechanic you use is REALLY qualified to tackle what you throw at them. NEVER go to a mechanic that also services American cars too, German cars require more finesse and expert tuning. Dont trust anyone but a German Dealership to do your work on a German Car.

Great Fun Car - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By Evan - August 25 - 10:00 amI travel alot and love how this car handles. The 5 speed shift makes it fun to drive. After 4 years, the purple lighted dash board still gets alot of oohs and ahhs. I have owned alot of VWs over the years and for the price, I think it is a great value.

Saved my life - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By Ali Griffin - August 1 - 12:20 pmAbout four days ago I was in a head on collision with a Chevy Suburban in a canyon. I walked away with glass shards in my arm and that is it. My friend who was in the passenger seat walked away without a scratch. Even the highway patrolman said the way the car handled the impact is what saved our lives. I loved that car, too bad it is totalled and completely unsalvageable. Thank you Volkswagen for making a car that passengers can feel safe in!

Fun to Drive Car - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By adamt - March 8 - 2:00 amWhen I first test drove this car, I was eager to own one. After purchasing the Jetta GLS 99 model, I am still enjoying driving. Cool accelaration on the highways and safe changing lanes on high speeds.

Love My Jetta - 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
By mtnlover - May 30 - 10:00 amThis has been the best car I have ever owned! All I do is the basic maintenance on it. Ive had this car for over three years and will have it for many more. I see that a lot of people are complaining about the new model. Maybe VW should not have changed a good thing!
