Overview & Reviews
Newly optional on Limited is a package that matches the bumpers and tailgate handle to the body color. The TRD Off-Road package is now available on Access Cabs with a V8 engine, while models equipped with a V6 receive an upgraded alternator. A note-pad holder is now optional on SR5 and Limited, while Base regular cab trucks lose their standard cassette player. Two new colors are available, filling three slots left vacant by old colors that have been discontinued.
- Silky V8, Toyota build quality, less-than-full-size maneuverability.
- Lacks wide range of choice offered by domestics, somewhat uncomfortable front seats, meager rear cab room on Access Cab, chintzy interior trimmings.

Best Truck Ive Ever Purchased! - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By Bocefuss - April 1 - 10:00 amWow, this is one heck of a solid truck. I commute from San Antonio to Austin every day. What a joy to drive! Noise levels are very low, smooth ride, very comfortable for driver and front passenger. 18+ mpg for a V8 is great. No issues and regular upkeep. Thanks Toyota!!

Does good in the mud - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By Doc - March 8 - 3:10 amIts a good running truck plenty of horse power. Already had to replace the rack and pinion bushings and just snapped the pinion gear on the ring and pinion in the snow. Not good build quality there. But its ok its getting converted to straight axle in the front to get it lifted the way I want on 38 inch tires now it sits on 33 inch mud terrains had it stuck in mud up past the doors twice now and getting a grabber green paint job. I could not ask for a better truck. I hate the push button four wheel drive and the fact you cant get a manual transmission thats gonna be chaged soon though.

Tundra V6 - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By Tazdog - May 31 - 10:00 amI have had the truck almost 3 years now. Have had no problems of any kind. It is a very comfortable ride with plenty of power. I put a shell on it & experienced no performance drop off. Gas mileage actually improved by 1/2 mi. per gal.

Oldie but a Goodie - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By woof - February 7 - 7:06 amThis is a great truck, despite the fact that the bed isnt quite 8 long. I carry hay, horse feed, fencing, manure, firewood and building supplies and pull a 2 horse trailer without any problems. My biggest complaint is its inability to move forward in heavy gravel or on any kind of slippery surface (mud), even with a load. The configuration of the back doors is awful! You have to play musical doors to put groceries in the back seat. No leg room for adults in back seat. This model came with Tacoma brakes, which created problems. Dealer installed Land Cruiser brakes at no charge. 75K miles to date, no mechanical problems, and 18 to 22 mpg with a soft foot and summer tires!

Great Choice...very happy - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By jcolumbu - January 29 - 10:00 amAfter being a lifer Chevy/Ford person, my wife bought a Camry and weve been hooked on Toyota since. I spens a lot of time looking around at the Big 3 and decided to go with the Tundra and Im glad I did. It has been rock solid...no problems, good power, handles great. I dont use 4WD much other than the winter, but it is nice to have. The brakes seem fine to me, I was surprised to see others complaining about them. Ive had heavy loads in the bed, it sagged down low as expected but took it fine. Id recommend this to anyone.

coffintruck - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By gts996 - December 12 - 10:00 amThis is the best truck for a retired guy Ive ever seen. If I still worked Id want an 8 bed but now its just right. If things continue like they have so far Ill probably keep it until I die and they can bury me in it.

Great, reliable truck - 2001 Toyota Tundra
By lwdngwruvz - September 5 - 1:28 amI bought this truck based on Toyotas customer service and durability of my 1990 Toyota 4x4 pickup. Anyway, about this truck... Excellent durability, reliability and really fun to drive. I am tall, so the headroom is awesome. Plenty of power for my needs, great braking and very comfortable. The tires that come from the factory wore out way too quick. I have had to replace two O2 sensors, which is a bummer. I have had to replace two latches for the rear windows. Other than that, I have had no problems with this vehicle. I try to perform regular maintenance, but I slip quit a bit.
