This Year's Model Updates:

The Tundra continues into 2006 without major changes, though an adoption of new and more accurate SAE engine measuring procedures by Toyota has resulted in a slight drop in the amount of stated power for the V6 and V8 engines.

Pros:
  • Smooth and refined V8 engine, Toyota build quality and reliability, nimble off-road, most carlike of the full-size trucks.
Cons:
  • Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, narrow cabin, mediocre seat comfort.

  • Highly Recommend - 2006 Toyota Tundra

I had been looking at all the big diesel trucks (Dodge, Ford, Chevy) but I found for 99.9% of what I needed to do this truck would be more than enough. The Toyota reputation really drew me to this truck and hasnt let me down. The only bummer is the mileage (I am getting 15 in mixed driving) but everything else is great.

  • Good All-Around Truck - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

I bought this truck at the end of 2006. I love the ride this truck has, and the power is sufficient to pull my 5,000 lb boat. The truck does downshift when going down hills, but besides that, Ive had no problems. Gas mileage is a little lower than Id hoped for. I only get close to 18 mpg highway when Ive got cruise control on going no faster than 60. Good truck overall.

  • AWESOME TRUCK - 2006 Toyota Tundra

Out of all of the trucks out there you can not go wrong with toyota. My family has 3 all total. Toyota isnt given its credit for its solid designs and reliability.

  • Does Not Tow What Sticker States - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

I recently towed a tandem axle and the rear end of the truck is on the ground. The vehicle is always taching up to the red line. I only have 3000 miles on this truck. The window sticker says that it can tow 6500 lbs and I had my trailer weighed and it was only 5000 pounds. I called them and they blew me off. They need to improve the rear suspension to allow it to tow better. I also have the TRD package and that does not help. It is only getting 7.25 miles to a gallon towing this trailer.

  • Simple and Reliable - 2006 Toyota Tundra

I wanted to by a Ford F-150, but after having a 97 Expedition that had a lot of electrical issues I decide to get the Tundra. This truck is very practical... Im a home owner and use it for going to the dump, loading up soil and brick for projects around the house. Drives very smooth and has a quite cab. Im not a big person... 510" 210 ... has plenty of room for me. I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old who ride in the rear seats and they have plenty of room. I did have a buy a tonneau cover to increase my storage space (a fold up 3 piece that I can remove to load large items in the back)... now the truck has all the storage that I need. I hope this helps.. no regrets in buying mine.

  • Great Truck - 2006 Toyota Tundra

First truck Ive owned but sure rides good. Seems very well built. Cant complain about fuel economy, but drive quite a bit of freeway miles. I did test drive all the different type trucks out there and chose this baby! Would suggest that you go buy ya one!!

  • TRD - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Regardless of what some write ups may say, my suspension and drive train and much much more stiff than any of my friends other trucks. I have the TRD and tow package and the suspension is uncomparable. Even though the horsepower rating may be less, Its "rear wheel" horsepower and not engine horsepower thats important. Even with less horsepower, my truck will still beat all of the competitors in the 1/4 mile. The drive train is very basic. All of the power from the motor goes directly to the rear without any traction control and other HP robbing items. The only problem is that I get a slight off start clunking from the rear. But Im finding out that this is normal for this truck.

  • Look Out Big 3 - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

I checked out the "Big 3" and neither Ford, Chevy or Dodge could compare to the Tundras long-term reliability or resale value. I anticipate having this truck between 5-7 years and all the research I conducted led me back to the Tundra. Absolutely no regrets, and I can truly say I made the right choice.

  • Poor gas mileage climbing hills - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Ive had my 06 Tundra for 5 weeks now, 500 miles. I drive 2.8 miles round trip to work and back. I coast to work, because it is all downhill. I climb a steep mountain going home. Only getting 10 mpg. Going to put Nitrogen in tires and replace air filter with a K & N air filter, hope mileage improve. This is the only complaint I have on this vehicle, otherwise it is great.

  • I LOVE my Tundra!!! - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

I test drove just about every model in every make. I had the salesman drive while I sat in the back seat to test its "passenger friendliness" as my other cars failed horribly in that aspect. We went over 2 speedbumps and barely felt it. As a driver, it is absolutely a comfort to drive. I love that the back window rolls down and that its not too high so that my kids to get in and out easily. I have always had large vehicles and this is by far the best one I have ever driven. The turning radius for a large truck is nice, too.
