This Year's Model Updates:

The Tundra continues into 2006 without major changes, though an adoption of new and more accurate SAE engine measuring procedures by Toyota has resulted in a slight drop in the amount of stated power for the V6 and V8 engines.

Pros:
  • Smooth and refined V8 engine, Toyota build quality and reliability, nimble off-road, most carlike of the full-size trucks.
Cons:
  • Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, narrow cabin, mediocre seat comfort.

  • Great Truck - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Most reliable truck I have owned. Real fun to drive. Have to deal with drive line bumping when stopped which I understand is common for 2006 trucks from Toyota and Ford. Not a problem in terms of performance or safety. Just an annoyance. Performs more like a car. Last year of a true midsized pickup. 2007 they went huge with Tundra. It is a great size for functionality, comfort and handling.

  • Another great Toyota truck!! - 2006 Toyota Tundra

My previous Toyota truck was a 1992 4WD V6 with a 5-speed. I racked up over 285,000 miles on it with no problems. Take care of your Toyota, it will take care of you. Same has held true for my 2006 Tundra. I found an extremely rare 2006 SR5 Access Cab with the 4.0L and a 6-speed manual transmission and had to have it. Bought it in 2011 with 181,000 miles. Miles mean nothing on Toyotas if they have been maintained. Replaced the shocks with Bilstein HDs (Yellow), and it made it ride like a new truck! With 220,000 miles on it, I am ready to declare my Tundra the worthy successor to the Beast! Had one single failure, a bad coil, which was easy to replace. 400,000 here I come!

  • No quality no reliability - 2006 Toyota Tundra

I traded in a Chevy Silverado for a Toyota Tundra. What a mistake! The 4 wheel drive broke after 200 miles. One week in the shop to install new control unit and front axle engaging device. Now the dashboard has a rattle in it and the fan is making a ticking noise. So far two trips to dealer have not resolved the problem. I have a Camry and love it. Toyota needs to stick to making cars and leave the truck building to some one else.

  • Cant Go Wrong - 2006 Toyota Tundra

This truck is my 3rd Toyota. I have had zero problems with them. Ever. The mileage is good, considering. The ride is sweet, but you know youre in a truck. The power sliding rear window is a wonderful idea. The truck is large enough to handle anything I would need, but it not so oversize that parking and negotiating is an issue. The fit and finish tops as is Toyotas reputation holds. Power is there when needed and the tranny is smooth. Styling is not "gotta have it," but it grows on you. This is the last truck I will buy. Period.

  • Best Truck Made! - 2006 Toyota Tundra

This truck is an all around great truck. It has never needed to be cranked more than one time to start even at 40,000 miles. This truck has gotten excellent fuel economy too! Ive done about 550-600 miles on full tank, which I couldnt believe, remembering its a V8. I took it to the dealer for the recall it had and it drives a little different from before but still not bad. Everything works as it should and this truck couldnt impress me more. No American car can compare to the reliability of this one.

  • Great Everyday Truck - 2006 Toyota Tundra

Unless you are doing some serious hauling and towing on a daily basis, there is no reason not to own this truck. Initially there was nothing special about the interior, but it has grown on me and now I really like it. Very smooth ride and engine, with great acceleration. Gas mileage has been good, especially for a truck. Its a comfortable easy to drive truck with Toyota reliability. The power rear window is a nice touch, and the 8 cup holders (4dr.) are great for families or just those of us who seem to collect beverages in out vehicles. Superior visibility, and excellent handling make the Tundra a perfect truck for everyday life, and Toyotas reliability.

I posted back on 4/30/06 and I wanted to comment again. Ive owned my Tundra 2 1/2 years now and Im totally satisfied. I did put flowmasters 70 series (duals) on it and Im very pleased. Additionally, I did put a K&N filter in it as well. I like the sound of it but more importantly my MPG is decent now. I dont drive like a race car driver but I do use it like a truck. City driving I get 16-17. Highway is 19 to 22. Here is the secret... 70 MPH is where I stop getting 20 MPG or better. It drops down to 18-19 MPG.

I bought this truck new. It now has 87K miles on it and it has never had anything done but oil service. Very dependable and sharp truck. My only compliant is it gets poor fuel mileage and the turning radius is terrible. Bottom line it looks great and never breaks down.

This vehicle is beyond wonderful. I highly recommend purchasing one before the 2007 hit the market. I look forward to using it for camping with the family!

  • Second Tundra - 2006 Toyota Tundra
    By -

This is my second Tundra, my first was a 2000 SR5 4x4 extra cab. The only reason I sold that one was for a bigger rear seat. It was a great truck, with good power and great reliablity. My new truck is even better, with the TRD package it ride great and handles the dirt and snow just fine. I have not towed anything with it yet, but forsee no problems. Although slightly smaller then the other full size trucks, it has plenty of room in the back and front seats.
