Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • My 2010 Toyota Tacoma, best pick-up truck I ever own........ - 2010 Toyota Tacoma

In my life time I own many trucks from Chevy, Ford etc. When I was a young kid when gas was $.89 a gal.

I cant believe how dissappointed I am with Toyota with this truck. I have never felt the need to post anything on any web site, but have done so on both the 05 Taco board and here tonight. This truck is not toyota quality. It is noisy and unrefined. Do not accept mediocrity. The engine noise is dreadful, the wind noise is not good. Drive a Tundra or a 4R and you will see what I mean. The ride is very pleasant from a suspension standpoint. The interior and stereo are excellent. I would bet this truck undergoes some changes (more sound buffering, better options), so do not buy this edition unless you have to.

  • FUN AT LAST - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

This is an exceptional vehicle for the price. The 6 cylinder engine and the torque gives it alot of power. The ride is smooth. The gas mileage on the highway is a litte over 20 mpg while traveling between 65-75 mph. The sliding cargo divider for the bed is a great option. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. Only draw back is the unavailability of a toneau style bed cover with pistons. There is no where to attach the cover with the design of the composite cargo box,

  • Its a swing and a miss! The new Tacoma strikes out - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Couple of Details and info for you. I live in Denver 5280 feet above sea level, this may affect my outcome. Second this is my 3rd Tacoma a 1997 then a 2007 now the 2016. I have past trucks to compare to. The new Tacoma is a giant disapointment! The power is way lower than the previous 2005 to 2015 trucks. If you own one of those keep it! The gas mileage on my 2007 was an average of 18 mpg, my new 2016 is averaging 15 mpg! 3 mpg less from a newer truck with a 6 speed transmission. Speaking of the 6 speed transmission, why did Toyota waste the money putting it in? The engine makes so little torque and power that I never get to use 6th, 4th and 5th mostly. In the mountain 3rd and 4th work best. Save your money on this over-priced failed updated from Toyota. I will sell mine right after the holidays, my only question is what to buy? Having owned 3 Tacomas just not sure what I will buy since Toyota has nothing I want.

  • TRD Sport - 2009 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

2009 Tacoma 4x4, Automatic TRD Sport with JBL, Long Bed, Tow Package. Purchased 10/2008 from Hometown Toyota in Ontario, OR. Good experience with dealer. Truck is really great. Performance, comfort, drive-ability all very good. Style and quality are better than any other truck on the market today in my opinion. Gas mileage was 18.5 average added K&N air intake and is now 20.5 average. Would like to see Toyota work on the gas mileage, should be better. Would also like to see Toyota offer leather seats, heated seats/mirrors. Price paid, less taxes, $29,600 Great truck, recommended.

  • Best yet - 2000 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I drive alot, like 40,000 a year. Ive had no major or minor problems what so ever. Gas mileage could be better. I bought the truck in N.M. and at high altitude, got 28-31 mpg. At sea level, mileage dropped to 19-21, or about 100 miles per tank of gas, which is 15 gals. Id buy another one.

leased this 2016 toyota tacoma v6, 4 door back in march , toyota had a great affordable deal on this model that the average working man could afford for a toyota truck.first things first the exterior paint is horrible scratches with the slighest touch, first noticed it when i was cleaning a little bird poop off the hood with water and a soft cloth i couldnt believe my eyes there where i just cleaned now had a circular scratch, i cleaned it again and nothing still there . as i looked closer around vehicle there were many similar scratches, when i picked up vehicle they must hide the scratches when they detail it, but when you do your first wash low and behold they reappear.brought it back to dealer they were very good about this situation and detailed it again, so far so good.now the biggest con for this vehicle is the transmission it shifts constantly for what reason i have no idea, after it goes through all the speed shifts its fine then the slighest acceleration it shifts , and shifts ,and shifts and the road isnt even in any kind of incline, i have a 2015 rav 4 that my wife uses with a 4 cyl that rides smooth shifts only when it should, and performs better then my tacoma, i asked her if we could switch vehicles she laughed and said you wanted that truck now live with it. bottom line i do not recommend the tacoma to any one, look into another truck you"ll be glad you did, and for me im stuck with it until the lease is up and when i do return it i feel sorry for the poor sap who purchases it.

  • Love This Truck! - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I bought my truck in late 2003, and it just turned 100,000 mile last week. It has not needed anything other than normal maintenance (brakes need to be replaced, tires too). The worst thing is that the accelerator squeaks. I travel about 30 miles to and from work daily and it gives me a comfortable ride. The V6 helps passing the big trucks (I am glad I did not get the 4 cylinder). This is a great truck! I hope my next Toyota is just as reliable (whenever that happens).

  • Beats the competiition - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Looked at the competition and nothing beat the Tacoma for value, looks, and build quality. The engine is quiet and smooth and gets this truck moving quickly. The interior looks very sporty for a truck. Mine has the TRD package which gives you some nice extras for the money. I am averaging about 20 mpg which is about what I expected for mixed driving. Not great but acceptable for a truck. Would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a mid-size truck.

  • I Love it!!! - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

What a great truck. Its beatiful, fun to drive and will probably last forever. Great acceleration, nice braking and handling. I got the upgraded JBL stereo and it sounds great. TRD sport package with the scoop on the hood looks killer. Fuel mileage is pretty good. I do a lot of in city driving and usually average around 18mpg, probably would be better if didnt like letting all horsepower loose. Its just so darn quick that I have to open it up every chance I get. Im heading to Florida this week so Ill test the highway mileage to see if I get the advertised 22 mpg.
