Overview & Reviews
Toyota releases the Double Cab. A new StepSide version is available, and the S-Runner sport truck debuts. Revised front styling and new alloy wheels give the 2001 Toyota Tacoma a more rugged look. New exterior colors and option package content shuffling sum up the obvious changes for 2001.
- Powerful engine choices, attractive styling, competent off-road capabilities, crew-cab configuration.
- Uncomfortable seats, high prices, aging design, no third or fourth door on Xtracabs.

Bulletproof - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Philodog - March 11 - 11:20 pm173,000 miles and still runs like new. It has the TRD package and gets used hard off road on a regular basis. Besides regular maintenance the only issues have been an O2 sensor, catalytic converter and a drive shaft center bearing. Still gets 18-20 on the highway. Stiff ride but it`s a real truck.

Recommend to Anyone - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By kinnywayne - March 9 - 10:00 amVery happy with my purchase. Bought it used. Took it to the Outer Banks, NC and rolled all over the beach. 4WD and power through the sand very surprising, considering I bought the 4 cyl. Good size and easy to park unlike some of the other trucks in its class (not real bulky but still rugged looking.) Would definitley recommend this vehicle to everyone.

Tacoma Fun - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By tucked - February 17 - 10:00 amIt is the best vehicle I have ever had! Its V6 is powerful, pulling my 8 trailer & ATV,no problem. The bed is short(ATV wont fit) but That is what made it appealing. Lots of rear leg room (more than our Rav4). Has gone anywhere that I have attempted. Winter driving is great in 4WD, but slides alot in 2WD. Couldnt get enough sandbags for 2WD. This is the only vehicle that Ive ever had for 2 years... and am still in love with! Oh yeah... the one thing that has been a problem; The front end is out of alignment already. Possibly due to the off-road driving that it has seen, but possibly due to Missouris CRAP they give us, and call a highway system.

One hell-of-an off roader - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By TejasYOTA - June 8 - 1:06 pmIn stock form this truck is very offroad capable. Good balance and grip and plenty of power. Only main gripe is the lack of a 5 speed when it was introduced and the damn placement of the digital clock. The electronic rear diff lock works great too. I only wish they offered a front locker too and offer the driver side grab handle on the a-pillar. It was deleted from the LIMITED versions. What marketing bozo thought of that?!

Good solid truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Toyfan - May 11 - 10:00 amI boutght mine new about a year and a half ago and still love it. Fun to drive, excellent performance and the mileage really isnt bad to me. I get over 20 on the highway and about 15 around town.

Little Truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Crazymagman - March 15 - 12:33 pmThis is a great little truck. The steering feel is better than my Maxima, and the truck is very responsive to quick steering actions. There isnt a ton of power from the 2.4L automatic, but I bought it for a daily driver and to haul things for the house, so its just what I need. The stepside bed really sets off the styling of the truck, and Ive only seen one other stepside Tacoma with the same wheels that mine came with.

Great Truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By sockman - February 17 - 2:00 amLove the Tacoma Crew Cab! It is a great truck and is the best looking small truck out there. Looks great, however it doesnt ride quite like its big brother the Tundra. I do highly recommend this truck over the other small trucks.
