Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • You get what you pay for... - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

I have read a number of other reviews and was not shocked to read about the fender flare seal problems. Other than that, after a few cross country trips and lots of stop and go traffic; no problems whatsoever. I cannot adequately express how much I love this truck. I think that it is by far the best looking truck in its class and, of course, the quality of a Toyota speaks for itself. Although it is more expensive than the others in its class, I think we all know that you get what you pay for when it comes to trucks and I feel as though I have received every pennys worth when it comes to my Tacoma.

After I came back from Iraq I knew what I wanted to spend my reenlistment bonus on. I bought my first Toyota truck. I have the 05 Tacoma Sport and am loving it. Its in my opinion the best looking truck out there. With the access cab Im able to pack my fishing gear as well as my buddies quite comfortably. The bed liner and built in storage compartments are sweet. Performance wise Im definitely impressed. Due to high gas prices I was looking at the a V6 instead of the V8 and really havent felt like Ive sacrificed a huge amount of power. The interior is sweet as well. The dash looks race carish and has all the options I was looking for.

I have never had any problems with this vehicle. I was a delivery driver for 2 years and drove it into the ground. As I said before, it is completly relible, and has made many long and short trips with me.

I had lusted a red Toyota 4x4 Xtracab since I was in college, and my wife and I could finally afford to buy this one new TRD off the lot. Weve taken into the most inhospitable places in the Colorado high country, moved out of two houses with it, landscaped innumerable lots with it, and added kids to the mix in between all the rest. Its been flawless overall, and we still love it dearly after 8 1/2 years. Given, the interior is small for a child seat and two 510 and over adults. Yes, there are a few rattles, it gets < 20 mpg, and rides like a buckboard wagon. But, its a go-anywhere truck that always works. Weve never regretted buying it, even once.

  • Not what I was hoping for - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

The truck idles high when in park, lunges when going from park into drive or reverse, and is continuously searching for gears when going down the road. It also feels as if I am constantly pulling a boat behind me. These issues can cause damage to the transmission over time. The dealership says the truck is "learning my driving habits", but at 3,500 miles, the truck should already be in sync with how I drive. The mechanic said he has had several complaints about the same issue. He said he did not experience the problem when he test drove mine, & it didnt show any problems when they hooked it up for a computer diagnostic test. I called Toyotas corporate office to file a complaint. I go this week to have the service manager test drive the truck with me in it. He is also going to check the transmission fluid levels. A different lot of 2016 Tacomas came off the assembly line with low transmission fluid. What those customers described as being their problem is exactly what Im experiencing. It appears to me Toyota is handling each complaint individually as customers speak up, instead of doing a mass recall. What a money saver for them. This is my first Toyota, and I really wanted to like it. Nothing but a disappointment so far. Did I mention it does not come standard with interrmitant wipers??? Those cost extra!!!! I should have bought a Chevy!!!

  • For a little truck, I love it. - 1996 Toyota Tacoma

This truck has been great. The truck was bought with 40k miles, and now has 267k. The only problem has been the catalytic converter, I am now on my 3rd. Beyond that, everything has been great, just regular maintenance. I am starting to feel a slight slip in the transmission when I shift from reverse to drive. The ride is not the most comfortable, ever since I bought the truck, I have felt every bump and crack in the road. I love this truck and feel it has gone well above and beyond what was expected of it.

It rides well, has a smooth engine and transmission, good sound system, the bluetooth is great, all other options are great. It is a little tall for a short person to get in.
