Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • High Utility in Smaller Package - 2011 Toyota Tacoma

I have owned nothing but Ford trucks since 2000, but when looking to replace my 2002 Ranger, which was still screwed together tight, just too small, I looked at the Sport Trac, F150, Frontier, and then finally chose the Tacoma. I have the basic Double Cab 4x4 with the 6 foot bed, mileage is the same as my Super Cab 4x2 Ranger at 19 mpg, tows 6000 lb. The interior is comfortable and appealing, very Camry-like. The ride is smooth, and the truck eminates a quality feel. Although almost as long as a crew cab F150 or Sierra the truck is nimble. My only complaint is the low seating position in the cab. The truck sits up quite high, however the driver is seated much lower than in my shorter Ranger.

This is my 5th toyota p/u. I always come back to them. Very reliable truck. I like the styling, interior finish.I would recommend them. Last tacoma was a 1997 with 174000 miles it is still going strong..

  • As Advertised - 2008 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have driven my truck about 36,000 miles in 10 months(outside sales w/large territory). Power and handling are excellent for a truck. Mileage stays between 21.5 and 22 with mostly highway driving. Previously drove a Colorado for 150,000 miles. Toyota power and quieter ride are a serious upgrade. Used to have to pull off the road in the Chevy to talk on the cell.

  • My 4rd Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I have had three 2nd GEN Tacoma double cab and now a 2016 Tacoma and one 2nd gen. They have the number one resale value of all vehicles sold in the United States, that pretty much says it all. The one thing that I will ding Toyota on, is the tranny in the 3rd gens. Im just not a big fan of them over the 2nd gens. The interiors designed very well, I am a 6 foot man and I sit very comfortably in it. The exteriors are very eye-catching and are very useful for out door use. I base the vehicles I buy on how overall useful they are to me. This is why, this is my fourth Tacoma double cab Ive owned.

  • Tow Package - 2010 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchased a 2010 Tacoma with a tow package as an option. The cost of the package was approximately 500+ dollars. Much to my surprise the package was lacking a tongue to hook up a trailer. Without the tongue the hitch is a useless piece of steel. Buyer beware Toyota is going cheap.

  • Toyota Never Again - 2009 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I am very disappointed with the Tacoma. So far the engine sounds like a diesel engine, its burns oil when first started and the stereo has a mind of its own (on, off, on, off volume up and down by itself). Toyota factory rep. says everything is normal. Its safe to say that I will never acquire another Toyota again. Back to my Jeeps.

  • I am proud to own this one. - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I work with guys that have driven a gazillion miles in their tacomas with little or no problems which is why I bought this one. Ive only ridden 15000 miles in it yet but theyve all been enjoyable. Had so fun on the beach watching others get stuck. It feels tight and rugged. I wouldve gotten the V6 if I couldve sprung the cash at the time.

  • Great Truck Except - 2006 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I love my truck; researched thoroughly before I made the purchase. I traded a 2003 Silverado and there really is no comparison between the two vehichles. I have put 4000 miles on it in all types of weather conditions and have to say that the driving experience is a pleasure. Going from the V8 in the Chevy to the V6 was a concern, but it turns out that my Tacoma has power to spare when needed. This is truly a great truck except for one issue that I hope to get resolved and does not cause any long term damage. I notice a tapping in the engine, only on cold starts and it certainly has me alarmed although it quits after the engine is warm. My dealership will resolve this issue.

  • Not for me - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Ill make it short and sweet toyota made a big mistake by changing to the 3.5 liter engine. This new version is so underpowered. It made my decision for a new truck easy. Ill check by with toyota in a few years to see if they have fixed the problems. Also the GoPro camera mount built in is absolutely stupid. Technology changes over time but that mount on your windshield doesnt. Same situation for the built in phone charger. Epic failure in the part of toyota on this one.
