Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Owned many Toyotas but this is my last! - 2010 Toyota Tacoma

I decided to lease my Toyota and had all kinds of trouble with the dealer. It took 4 months to get plates, they messed up paper work and had to redo. They did not notify me of this. So its not been good. So now for the truck, its a DOG plain and simple. The 4 Cylinder engine has 30 less HP then my wifes RAV 4 which has a smaller 4 Cyl? The 4 speed trans is awful and when its in overdrive which happens way too soon I get a vibration because the RPMs are so low and the engine lugs. Who ever mated this engine with the transmission and programed it does not drive it! I have had trouble with a whine from the trans too but have not been to a dealer yet.

The all new 2005 Tacoma is truly a great new Truck! The new design inside and out is awsome.Nothing is the same from the 2004 models, and the price is great also. The increased HP is unbeliveable and the new brakeing system can get you out of a jam.I love it and think anyone would too!

I put 145,000 on the truck and I bought it used. Ive done nothing to it but general maintenance. You cant go wrong with a Tacoma, its my second Toyota and I will be buying a third after I put 200k on this one.

  • Great truck - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Had an ’03 Double Cab and totaled it in an accident. The truck saved our lives and bought the ’05 because I believe that Toyota’s are built to last. The larger interior is awesome and the truck is so comfortable to drive; rides like a luxury car. No complaints about this truck and enjoy driving it everyday.

  • One Year Later - 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Ive had my truck one year now. Some marks have dropped a bit I am sure. The 4 cyl w/ the 4x4 and extended cab is adequate most of the time. The only time I notice it bogging out is on the highway going up a big hill. If youre going 70 mph prepare to drop to fourth to maintain 60 mph. Mixed feelings on the traction control; it, along with the abs seem to do more harm than good. Dont be afraid to turn it off (in the right circumstances that can be a lot of fun). Fuel economy is pretty good (~23 mpg. Lot of city driving). Excellent in the 50-60 mph range (keep the revs under 2k). My Buddy just bought a ranger, Im shaking my head at the "deal" he got vs what hell spend in gas. Shes a tank.

  • LOVE w Blue Truck - 2017 TRD SPORT Tacoma - 2017 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Traded in my 2011 Trd Sport Tacoma for one reason and one reason only the ride was rough I loved this truck. Then came the 3rd gen. Tacoma in 2016 saw it and heard about all the trans problems of 5th and 6th gear confused so I waited for this BLAZING BLUE 2017. Get looks from everyone and everyone comes up to me saying beutiful truck...which I think is absulotely true. Now the ride is like riding in a big F-150 or a Lexus it is so queit and comfortable. It get better: Averaging 24 mpg in the city. I drove it on a 33 mile freeway drive the other day with about 3 stop lights got 29 mpg... I am so so stoked. Open the door w/o pushing key button then push start the start button and your off to a smooth quiet comfortable ride luxury all the way. Is so so easy to start and go. Look forward to driving this luxury truck and easy to park. Cant wait for my next drive.....get one for yourself.

for 85,000 miles in less than 3 years, I have put about 8,000 true off-road miles on it and can say it is the best built vehicle Ive owned. Im looking at another one, but feel comfortable putting 3-400,000 on it. Get one!

  • my PreRunner - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Have only had my Tacoma for 3 months now, but have taken my family of 4 on a 2200 mile trip to Washington DC and it was fantastic!! Plenty of room for both boys in the back with the videos and games, plenty of room up front for my wife and I. The mileage was 2mpg better than the sticker both in town and on the hwy. The truck is definitely a headturner. If I could afford another one for my wife, Id do it in a heartbeat.
