Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • road noise - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

The door gaskets are terrible, the road noise is very loud-the faster you go more volume is needed on the CD or radio, also to much dirt, dust and road salt collect inside dr. jams. The paint chips very easily every where - it looks very thin. The seats feel like your sitting on layers of cardboard. Quality control experts should be fired for putting one of the most under rated and cheapest dunlap tires on this truck or any truck.

  • Paint Chips Badly - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

There is a problem with Toyota paint on these pickups. The water based paint chips very easily. I thought I bought a good dependable truck only to find chipping paint after only 1000 miles of around town driving. I like the truck but the paint problem spoils it for me. Buyer beware.

  • Quality Truck - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

I traded my defective Chevrolet Colorado in on a new Tacoma after GM wouldnt stand behind their product. I wish I would have looked at the Tacoma 2 years ago. The interior quality beats Chevy hands down, as does the ride and lack of road noise. There is also no comparison of the stereo system, Toyota beats Chevy without question. The mileage on the 2.7 4 cyl. 4X4 Tacoma has been fantastic. The mileage during the first 3000 miles has been 23 - 24 mpg with about 50% highway driving. I am very happy with my Tacoma.

Got my Taco in 2005 w/ 12k miles while visiting O.C CA. I consider it my first-born child. It has 50,200 on it now, and a set of spark plugs are the only thing I`ve put into it besides oil/lube changes. Timing belt this year due to age only. Has plenty of power for what you put in bed, small trailer. 26 mpg is about the best I can get on highway due to lack of cruz and the fact it drives out good around 75mph. My neighbor drives a 1996 base model @ work that has 550k last I saw. It`s on clutch #3, the u-joints in the steering & driveshaft are the other replaced items. Oil still needs no checking between 5k changes. If you maintain your Yota you can count on them for a good, long time. Word

  • Running Strong after 10 Yrs and Counting - 2000 Toyota Tacoma

I purchased my PreRunner July 2000 with 5 miles. Now at 136,500 its still 100% dependable. I take it everywhere...work, hunting, ATV carrier, wood hauling. You name it and its always there for me. Outside of the normal maintenance (brakes, fluids, tires, etc) no problem what so ever. Ive been running Toyos on it since 2007 and I wish I would have made that switch 7 years prior. Simply a great vehicle. I dont think my teenager is going to get this truck. Ill get him something else. ;-)

I have had nothing but good luck with this vehicle, Im just getting ready to do the 90,000 go through with this truck.

  • A Very Good Truck - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This is a very good truck if you are in need of a vehicle that can seat 5 and have a small pick up. Compared to the other trucks that are in its class the Tacoma seems to me to have more interior room than the Dodge and Nissans that I looked at. I am also getting 17/20 mpg.

  • Best Truck Ive ever owned - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I purchased my truck as a demo model in 2006. It has been flawless. I have always owned domestic trucks in the past, mostly Fords. The build quality of the domestics pale in comparison to my Tacoma. I have 45,000 miles and every panel is as tight as the day I bought it. No squeaks, rattles, or faulty interior pieces. I absolutely love my truck, and cant imagine parting with it, unless I was replacing it with a new Tacoma.
