Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

Tough Choices - Tacoma - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By kirbyt - November 24 - 10:00 amTacoma Dbl Cab is a good compromise amoung the compact and mid-sized pickups. TRD package is proven to be good choice for options received. Parks well in tight parking garages and fits inside the garage at home. Tacoma PreRunners just are not a smooth ride on any surface. Tundra rides far superior. Back seat is comfortable and folds up just right for the dog to ride in back. Front bucket seem to be fine for support of the average build. Seat height is bit low but not uncomfortable. Note that the back seat windows go down all the way! Im sold on the truck and looking forward to many years of driving.

Nice Truck - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Poor Seats - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
By S.B. Mann - November 18 - 10:56 pmThe bucket seats in the truck are very uncomfortable. Cannot drive more than an hour at a time, must get out and walk. Has a bad wind whistle, dont like the constant shifting of the motor and do not like the smart key. This is our 3rd red Toyota we have owned. We really liked the first 2 but this 2016 is not good. Cant wait to get rid of it. We just traded up to a Tundra and the ride and seats are much better.

Really Disappointed - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
By Nick A. - November 18 - 12:23 pmI sold a 2006 Chevy Tahoe and leased a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe for a year just to wait for the 2016 Tacoma... BIG MISTAKE!!! My Tacoma has been in the shop 5 times over the last year for an electrical issue (interior lights fuse keeps popping) and now the radio resets a couple of times a week. It is in the shop now again... same problem. Toyota coroporate could not care less... they keep putting new fuses in and a few weeks later it happens again. Corporate sent me a letter back saying in essance - " There is no problem." Gilroy dealership is trying, but cant find the problem even with the help of the manufacturer (supposedly). My other complaints are like the others... transmission changes gears all of the time, gas mileage is not good and I have to duck to get in it and Im 510". The extererior is nice and I do like the controls. Im stuck with it for another year and a half... I hope the 2018 or 2019 is redesigned. If not, than I will NOT buy another Tacoma (sadly- because it is the truck I want). My loaner is a 2017 TRD Tacoma-- no changes from 2016... DISAPPOINTING!!!

Solid reliable truck - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

The 08 Tacoma is a solid well built truck with all the features I could want. Six speed is fun to drive and gives a little better engine break control in the snow. The TRD package provides some great seats and other features. The truck runs solid if not a little rough but it is a truck and with the bed loaded it smooths out considerably. Mileage is about as expected. The fit and finish is very solid as well. Does not look cheap or cheesy. Overall very happy with my purchase, great financing was offered by toyota as well as other rebate incentives.

Sets a Standard for quality - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
By AJAX - November 8 - 10:33 pmI bought this Prerunner double-cab in Feb. 2004. It has the V-6 engine. My mileage has steadly increased to 22 mpg. There should be more leg room in the back seat area. The quality is superior. After 31,000 miles everything works perfectly. This is my second Tacoma truck and I continue to be amazed at the reliability built into these trucks.

2nd Tacoma - like the 2003 even better - 2003 Toyota Tacoma
By acf2001 - November 6 - 2:00 amHad to settle on the stepside bed, 5M, extended cab, 4wd, but love this truck... husband totaled the last one a month ago and the insurance company reimbursed us very well - this truck holds its value as well as it is a safe truck. Husband flipped it 2x in the air due to ice and walked away unharmed. Last one, 2001, was nice, but new antilock brakes standard is a plus on the 2003. Solid feel and high profile make this fun to drive.

By gunslinger357 - November 5 - 1:53 amMy Toyota Tacoma Prerunner Doublecab 3.4L V-6 TRD RULES the Road! It Kicks BUTT in every way. It is Ultra Reliable, Toyota-Tough, and I can ALWAYS depend on it. On the weekends, my Tacoma can Tear it UP with the best of them Off Road. In fact it IS the best, because every week I pass by all the broken down Fords, Chevys, and Dodges with engine/transmission problems and I laugh. My Tacoma rocks them ALL! Ive tried the Rest, now I Own the BEST!
