Overview & Reviews
Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.
Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

2016 TRD OR DCLB- Not worth the hype - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
By Tacoma Tom - December 8 - 5:29 pmI owned a 2016 DCLB TRD-OR for 6 months and 14,000 miles. I tried really hard to like this truck, but the engine and transmission combination in this vehicle is absolutely horrible. It cant make up its mind what gear it wants to be in, constantly upshifting and downshifting. The slightest incline on the highway and your greeting with a downshift into 4th gear. I had to search for and find the TSB supposedly to fix this (called the Shift Feeling Enhancement, and force the dealer to apply it. It only marginally helped. The straw that broke the camels back was the horrible highway gas mileage- western states have posted 80mph and I was lucky to get 16 mpg highway. Even in flat as a pancake IOWA we averaged 14 mpg over a stretch of 100 miles. The dealer told me to wait until after 10,000 miles to let the engine really break in and my mpg should get better. It didnt. We just traded the Tacoma for a double cab Silverado 1500 LTZ with the big 6.2L v8 and 8spd tranny. On my first tank of gas I am averaging 19mpg- 3 mpg better than my Tacoma ever did. There are much better trucks out there- the Tacoma is sorely disappointing.

Excellent Quality Pick-up Truck - 2002 Toyota Tacoma
By Sherry M. - December 8 - 10:00 amIve had my Tacoma Double Cab for two years and love it. It has been very reliable and have had no problems at all with it. The quality of the truck is excellent inside and out. Ive been very impressed that the cost of maintenance is much less expensive than most others. I would recommend this truck to anyone looking for a good looking, quality pick-up truck. The Tacoma Double Cab also has great leg room in the front as well as in the back.

I Love My Toyota - 1996 Toyota Tacoma
By joe - December 8 - 12:06 amI bought my Toyota at 118,000 , and after replacing little things here and there, it still runs like new and looks good. It has seen mud and water door high and have not got it stuck yet. I will have this truck restored and give it to my son (maybe) I do love my truck..

Love it!!!! - 2008 Toyota Tacoma
By fatvette - December 4 - 10:23 amThis has been an awesome truck for what I use it for. I bought it new in 2008 and it currently has 31000 mile on it. Although the miles are relativity low I have not had any failures of any type. The truck has been flawless. The truck is very comfortable considering the bench seat but I did add an aftermarket center console/armrest. Having a place to rest your arm made a big improvement over holding it in your lap or resting on the seat. Engine power in more then adequate. Brakes are a little spongy and road noise on this base model is noticeable.

Great Truck for the Long Haul! - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
By Leon - December 2 - 1:20 pmToyota makes a great truck with an actual 4 door area for seating or carrying itmes. The mechanical durability is great, not one problem in over 105,000 miles! Inside seats could use a little more cushioning, but the power, gas mileage and reliability make this truck a winner. I will keep mine until it reaches 750,000 miles in ten years.

2004 Tacoma Xtracab 4cyl 5-spd - 2004 Toyota Tacoma
By DaveJ - December 2 - 2:00 amSuperb build quality. Everything fits, everything works. Quality materials used throughout. No squeaks or rattles. Interior design marred by absurd placement of clock. Interior cubby-hole space is minimal. Adequate power, excellent transmission, easy to use clutch, strong brakes. Fuel economy is very good for a truck, but noticeably worse than cars with similar size engines. Six-speaker audio system better than expected. Easy to drive, with a fairly car-like ride. Insurance less than the Honda Accord we traded in. Buying experience at this dealership was actually quite pleasant; neither a battle of wits nor an endurance test.

Awesome Truck - 2011 Toyota Tacoma
By Peterj6 - November 29 - 2:00 amI have wanted a truck ever since I traded in my trusty 2004 Ranger a couple of years ago. I needed something that would get reasonable mileage and room for 4 adults. This truck nailed it. Was concerned about the seat from prior reviews. I am ok with height but did not feel comfortable until a couple weeks in. What blows me away most is that this truck handles like a car even with the longer bed. Love the XM for rural drives in the Northeast for work. More storage than I will ever need and it is beautifully styled. Mileage is about 17-18 mixed which is pretty good given that I am a lead foot. Only gripe is that for $30K this should have heated mirrors. Even my basic Ranger had that.
