Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

I finally decided to buy a truck but did quite of bit of research and test drives before I purchased on my 2016 Tacoma Sport Double cab. I read a lot of bad reviews about the transmission and pedal lag. Yeah its a little slow but overall I think it drives fine. The interior was nicer than the Chevy Colorado and Honda Ridgeline. I thought the Tacoma has the right balance of sport, interior quality and drive feel. I also drive a BMW 2016 M3. When I want to drive fast I drive my M3 but I do like the ride of the Tacoma. One grip I did have was not having enough models with leather seats. My has cloth but they are comfortable and appear easy to clean. Gas mileage has been fine. I feel like I made a good decision with the tacoma

  • Amazing! - 1996 Toyota Tacoma

My ratings are based on this trucks performance in its best days. 4cyl, 4 spd, basic model. Sadly, at 310,000 miles its begining to decline. I bought it with 4500 miles and since then all thats been replaced other than the usual things is the starter - NOTHING ELSE! Clutch began to slip at 290,000; AC broke at 295,000 but thats it! Im having to downshift a lot to get it up hills but its been a phenomenal vehicle. I just sold an 03 fully equipped 4wd CrewCab Tacoma with almost 100k that looked and performed like new. Sad to see it go but I didnt need a fancy commuter anymore. Hope our 01 Sequoia will perform as well even with all its fancy stuff.

  • Love This Truck! - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Found an 04 V6 PreRunner with SR5 and TRD package with only 24k miles on it. Still smelled new! I had an S10 and the difference is amazing. The smooth ride, power, fuel economy, and options on this truck make S10s and Rangers look and feel antiquated.

  • Traded my SUV to the New 2016 Tacoma - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I was skeptical at first trading in my SUV for the new Tacoma because I didnt want to loose the comfort but I needed something that can work as an SUV to fit 5 people comfortable and be able to carry material. The ride is very comfortable, glad I made this change.

  • Oh what a feeling! - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

I used to have a 93 Toyota pickup, 5 spd manual with the 22RE engine that I loved. Put 24k miles on my 08 so far and no major complaints. The SR5 4.0L V6 has more than ample power. Roomy interior. Gated automatic shift lever does not have locking button so that the lever can shift at anytime if it is accidentally bumped. The downshifts could be smoother and less often, but arent that big a deal. Wish Id gotten the stick shift instead, but at the time I wanted to try an automatic after 15 years of my old truck. Love the suicide rear doors on the access cab. But rear seating is cramped and should only be for short trips or kids.

  • Perfect (for me) - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Only truck Ive ever had that did EVERYTHING I asked of it. I bought it w/69,000 miles & after 5 yrs have just over 140,000. Replaced O2 sensors & cat converter outside of regular preventive maintenance. I routinely travel min maint & backroads, 50 miles of hwy/day of work, haul equipment/firewood, utilize 4WD, etc. Handles extremely well regardless of conditions. Fuel mileage is higher than acceptable given the demands I place on this truck. Tight cab even @ 9-10 yrs old, no rust. Outstanding truck! I dont have a family, but my dogs & I fit perfectly (not small dogs). Given the miles I drive for work & school, the weekend projects & dependability during inclement weather. I just love it!

  • First Toyota Truck - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

This is the first Toyota truck I have ever owned. Ive only had it a few weeks but could not be happier. Plenty of power for passing and a very comfortable ride for a pick-up truck. The interior of the truck was set up very nicely with no gauges being blocked from your view with the steering wheel. Ive seen several reviews from professional websites that claim the seating position is too low. Im 62" and I say the seating position is too high. Other than that an overall exceptional truck.

  • Not the truck i hoped and payed for - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

As we all know Toyota Tacomas are very expensive in comparison to their domestic counterparts. Youre hoping they give u at least 200k. Bought this truck brand new with 26 miles. I commute nearly 350 miles every 2 days. I changed both the oil and filter every 3,000 with Toyotas recommended oil, flushed the trans every 45k and had the rear end done every 50k. Cooling system at 65k and again at 118k. With 121,450 miles my 2.7L seized. Not what I expected. Toyota said at 120k it should be ready for an overhaul. Engine sludge. OK? I thought they lasted. My wifes 05 FX4 f150 has 188k on original drivetrain along with my 97 Jeep 4.0 with 294k on the original engine. Should have spent money elsewhere.

  • This is the truck I wanted! - 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Having spent over a decade in an S-10 Blazer, I was amazed at the quality of materials, quietness and smoothness of the Tacoma. My son-in-law has an 02 Tacoma that he loves. Driving my 07 is a pleasure. It has a great view of the road, ample power, a smooth-shifting manual 6 speed and ice-cold AC. The seats are comfortable and all of the controls within easy reach. I found the stereo to be more than adequate for my tastes, Im not an audio snob. The locking rear differential is a nice bonus. Im looking forward to many years of service from this truck!
