Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

  • Expectations continue - 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Continuing a 10 year legacy of Toyota ownership . Tacoma purchase compliments an aging fleet 94/190K,2001/75K. Traveling home to Michigan UP ,I averaged 21.8 mpg without using cruise, but utilizing varying throttle opening with small changes in RPM that resulted in the best milage. I have made this trip hundreds of times and am usallly ragged out regardless of rest stops. Tacomas ride with optional 16 inch tires and form bucket seats aided in the arrriving at the destination refreshed compared to previous trips. With 1235 miles ,the next ten years will reveal the story of this investment. We are hopeful as a Toyota will usually give trouble free service

  • "BEWARE" OF THE 2016 TOYOTA TACOMA TRD OFF ROAD - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Take it from someone who has owned Toyota trucks since the mid 80s, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road is the "WORST" truck Ive ever owned. If I had it to do over, I would not have bought this truck. I wish I would have read the reviews from previous buyers before assuming this was going to be another Toyota quality vehicle and that was not the case. If you are reading this post "before" you purchase this truck, I would advise you to 1st, not buy this truck. But, if you are interested in buying this truck I would recommend you to "test drive" the truck a lot before buying it. Even if you have to go to several different dealerships. I dont even have 2,500 miles on my truck & planning on selling or trading it before the first 5,000 mile service. I have never been more disappointed in the truck and in the lack of help from the dealership that I bought it from. The only people that could honestly give this truck a 5 Star Review, would be the salesmen. Had two firmware updates since posting , Toyota still working on transmission and other issues. Update 08/19/2017 still dealing with Toyota corp. I AM STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH TRANSMISSION SHUDDING, FLARE AND CLUNKS WHEN YOU STOP, STILL VERY UNHAPPY.

  • Underwhelmed - 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I bought my 06 Sport pkg 4 dr short bed a couple months ago after trading in my 2000 Tundra. Ive had Toyota trucks for 18 years now and Im a bit dissapointed in their latest offering. I find the ride much harsher than previous trucks, like old solid axle GMCs. That has translated to numerous ugly rattles that the dealer cant seem to find. The Sport seats are comfy for about 30 miles and then get progressively harder. I dont like loosing the cassette player and ashtray either. Style is a personal thing but using a third of the dash for the radio and painting it all silver is a little pushy. The V6 is short on torque like the previous V6s but does get V8 gas mileage.

  • Wonderful Value - 1999 Toyota Tacoma

Other than regular oil changes, a tuneup at 90k, and a replacement thermostat in 2008, the only costs have been gasoline. Have done lots of hauling over the years, some towing too - never any isuues. This has been a great truck for the money.

  • My Tacoma - 2005 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

My former truck was a V-8 Tundra, till my son put it through two trees doing 65MPH and managed to walk away. My Tacoma is a shortbed. Gas mileage isnt great but better than the Tundra, and it seems just as powerful with the new V-6. Ive got the towing package and have towed with it happily a couple of times. 7000 miles so far and very pleased. My only objection is that I would have liked to have a manual transmission and Toyota doesnt put them in their double cabs. The composite bed is very nice, and Ive already used the rails and removable clips several times. I also like the storage compartments behind the seat in back.

  • Not so great! - 2016 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

Last summer, l Traded a 2016 Tacoma Limited for a Ford F-150 Lariat. What a mistake! After dealing with the sickening floaty bouncy ride, I took the loss and purchased another 2016 Taco ltd. Thanks to Toyota for resale value... Ford resale very bad. Taco not being perfect, is a very fun vehicle to drive... handling and ride on the highway is quite good.

  • Solid and Funtional 4x4 D-Cab - 2003 Toyota Tacoma

I have had no major problems with this vehicle. Its a great truck to drive and hauls everything I need to carry, whether it be my ski gear to the slopes or my mountain bike to the trails it has been great. Enough room in the back for smaller adults with no complaints. I like the styling of the truck as well. It handles great on the roads(non-TRD) and also does well off-road.

  • Still undecided if I will keep truck - 2009 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

I like the exterior and interior styling. There are a lot of complaints about the seats and brakes, but its all in perspective. So far I dont have any complaints about the transmission except for no dipstick to check fluid. BF Goodrich Tires are too noisy and rough. They have an aggressive design but are unimpressive in snow. Radio sounded awful at any volume so I replaced it right away. Three child seats fit in the back seat with little effort. I like the four wheel drive and the stability control. Still, I might have to trade for something with a third row seat.

  • The Best - 2001 Toyota Tacoma
    By -

This truck was a graduation gift from my parents and they couldnt have made a better choice. I have owned a 91 and 93 toyota tacoma, both 4x4, and they have become my favorite trucks. I drive my truck hard, using the 4X4 on a regular basis and I have yet to have a problem. The off-road capability is unmatched by anything I have come across yet. It is a simple truck that cant be beat!

  • 5 years and going - 2001 Toyota Tacoma

I really enjoy the vehicle except that it tends to run lean and knock a bit upon light acceleration. Maybe that is why I get 20-21 mpg. Probably will get another one when I give this to my youngest son to drive. I still receive compliments from people about how nice it looks.
