Model Overview:

Since its introduction in 1995, the Toyota Tacoma has been a mainstay of the compact and midsize pickup segments. The original Tacoma fell into the compact category, while the second-generation truck's 2005 debut marked the transition to midsize dimensions. Typical advantages to a new or used Tacoma include a variety of body styles to choose from, useful off-road abilities, strong resale value and a better than average reputation for reliability.

Downsides are few. Even when modestly appointed, this Toyota often costs more than competing trucks and prices are high on the used market as well. In addition, taller drivers might feel cramped inside the first-generation Tacoma's compact cab. Otherwise, the Toyota Tacoma is a very capable pickup that's highly recommended for nearly all truck shoppers.

After owning 4 Tundras the last one a 13 platinum I decided to trade for a new tacoma limited, after ready how improved it was, waited over 2 months for it to come in,salesman thought it had power seats but couldnt confirm,I read conflicting articles mostly saying no power seats, well majority of articles were correct, against my better judgment I completed the deal, maybe I was spoiled by the Tundra but this tacoma is very ! Uncomfortable went back to the dealership with 160 miles to trade on a tundra but, only giving me over $4000 less so no deal, the truck also feels very under powered whe in town driving, and the tranny, seems to hunt not a enjoyable drive, ended up trading for a f150 platinum I believe this was a great choice, gas mileage the same as tacoma and so comfortable ! Even so much more than the tundra, just hope its as reliable, after driving only Toyotas for years this took a leap of faith the tacoma purchase may have been last toyota purchase.

I have enjoyed the truck very much from the sound system to the way it handles in snow. I recently have been having a problem that Toyota tells me I have to live with. If I come to a complete stop and than try to accelerate quickly to get into traffic my engine does not respond, almost like it chokes it self out. Toyota is telling me the computer has gotten used to the way I normally drive and will not let me accelerate quicker than normal.

How does Toyota do it? SOO much truck for so little money. 4 door cab is extremely roomy and comfy. V6 mated to the 5 speed auto is more than ample power - truck will scoot. Ride is unblievable for a truck. My wife (who is not a truck person) compares the ride to a car. Shes right. Very stable handling. mine came with the limited slip diff. and on a recent long distance, high speed trip in TORRENTIAL rain it was stable as a rock. No wheel spin, no traction loss at all. Stereo is killer - sounds better than the one is my expensive sports car. Back bed liner is tough - BUT slippery for my dogs. easily fixed with rubber bed mat. Fit and finish is typical Toyota - tops. Paint is lustrous.

Finally getting rid of a 1991 Toyota Corolla. It was time to get a truck and I was thinking of Dodge, Ford, and Toyota. The more I thought about it, my last Toyota lasted me 11 years and had well over 200,000 miles on it...why would I go with anyone else?! Just bought it and I love it!

  • Outstanding Value - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

This is my 3rd Tacoma and by far its the best. From performance to gas mileage, comfort and quite. An excellent vehicle with everything I was looking for. I do mostly highway driving with average trip being 2400 miles and gas mileage has ranged from 27.2 mpg to 25.8 (heavy wind in Eastern CO, Western OK and Central TX). In town I average 20.3 mpg. Mine is a 2X4, with a tonneau cover, and a KN filter, maybe thats why high mpg. Any way I think its an outstanding value and Im very satisfied. Live in CO but went to MS to purchase because, the model I wanted an SR5 Access Cab, 2X4, was not sold in the Mountain District.

  • Surprising vehicle! - 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Ive always been a Honda driver. But after getting into this compact truck and driving it around, I was totally surprised! Its smooth, doesnt have a bulky "truck" feeling to it and its so easy to manuever in and out of traffic. The seats are a little stiff but I really like the tilt steering wheel option. Ive only accrued 200 miles on it so far, but I cant wait to test it on longer, highway trips! Working with the dealership was another surprising experience! Great guys!

I rolled this truck after hitting ice in a snow storm and walked away without a bruise. The pros who came to the site said they expected to be pulling me out on a stretcher. I felt secure and safe even as we flipped and Ill buy this same truck again. Im glad the 2005 model has the bigger back area on the access cab as it was toooo small on the 2004

this truck is amazing. After having a 92 toyota pick-up and trading it in for a car, i really missed the feeling of a truck. This truck is everything I missed and more than I could have hoped for.

  • Just what I wanted - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Looked at every truck available and almost got a Honda. The Toy was not as nice but much more fun to drive. Im on the fwy every day in LA traffic and love the 6 speed, original tires have 65k and will last another 8K months, clutch is solid as the first day. Overall quality is first rate. Interior room is fine but not spacious. I am 64" and my sons are 65" and they love to drive it. Plan to buy the exact same when youngest son takes this. Toyota no longer sells a 6 speed in SoCal so Ill go out state to get one.
